Here’s a pic of baby Harlow Winter Kate Madden with her parents Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. From this angle she doesn’t resemble either one of them.

Yesterday I had a spirited discussion with a friend about the ancient one drop rule and why most blacks in the post-slavery era refuse to let go of it. I’m so tired of hearing the excuse “because the white man says.”

Hopefully, Harlow will grow up to claim her entire heritage – not just the one drop part.

Sorry but yall are wrong..Nicole is black, white AND Hispanic..her biological father who is Shiela E’s brother is Afro-Latin American………meaning black and mexican/latin or whateva ..her mother was never in her life but she is white.

The one drop rule mostly applies to people of mixed (black/white)heritage…I think that people should embrace their entire racial background not just one part of it, but it also depends on how that person was raised and what part of their heritage they identify with the most…Now when we’re talking about a COON like Tiger Woods who completely distance himself from his black heritage that’s another story.

Lovelylady you are correct..and Nicole does acknowledge she is black, however she has grown up in a white world and her child will be the same..it won;t matter what she calls herself in the end it’s who she identifies with and just like her mother..she’s more comfortable with the Buffy’s and Muffy’s than the Laquita’s and Boonquishas..no gray area

I thought Lionel reported on E True Hollywood that Nicole’s biological father was a member of the Commodores (not a singer, one of the musicians) that got caught up in a situation, so he adopted her. If I am not mistaken, Sheila E’s brother didn’t play for the Commodores.

Nicole was born Nicole Camille Escovedo and her father’s name is Pete Escovedo……..and that’s a FACT. Her mother was a backstage assistant on Lionel Riches tour……….. Nicole’s father (biological) would take Nicole to Lionel’s recording session and Lionel fell in love with her…………don’t ask how he ended up adopting her that’s another story that idk

^^ Lionel said that neither of Nicole’s parents could take care of her..however although she had the last name of Richie it wasn’t until years after she was living with them that they formally adopted her..all this was on E!

Harlow will claim her entire heritage about as much as her mom does, which is not at all. Nicole is passing and her daughter will pass even more as she is even more white than her mom. Nicole would probably shank you if you called her anything other than white. I’m not saying that’s bad either. Nicole looks white and the child will be more white and less “exotic” than Nicole so what’s wrong with her claiming whiteness?

Regardless of race I think this is a beautiful picture. Parenthood certainly agrees with them both. Nicole looks beautiful and healthy and damn ole by sure does clean up nicely. I think the baby looks like daddy in a dress.

They clean up well…they both usually look really trashy. With a name like Harlow…there may be a pole in the baby’s future. Nicole was adopted. They all look very nice in the pic.
