Michelle Obama called on the biased media to stop using Rev. Jeremiah Wright as a propaganda tool against her husband Barack Obama. I totally agree with her. Enough is enough already. Wright and the helpful biased media have turned Obama’s run for presidency into a carnival atmosphere with Wright as the ringmaster.
Outraged by comments Wright to the National Press Club in Washington on Monday, Obama said her husband’s move to distance himself from the grandstanding pastor was a “painful” one, but one that was necessary.
“I was proud of the statement he made yesterday,” she said in an interview with CNN’s Suzanne Malveaux. “It was a tough thing for him to do — it’s a painful situation to be in.”
She said it’s time for the campaign to move forward from the controversy and return the focus to issues like the economy and health care.
“With all due respect, we’re moving forward,” she told Malveaux. “Barack was so clear, and he’s been so open about this issue, and he speaks for me as well.” (Source)
Amen .. a very well Poised Future First Lady
I totally agree…I hope this hasn’t cost Barack the Nomination….
Rev Wright is so wrong. I know he wants to defend himself but now is not the time. I wish he would just sit down and chill for a few months. He is not running for anything but attention. I do like his preaching and would have even attended his church had I had the opportunity.
*Clapping* I applaud Mrs.Obama Lets move on already. Rev Wright views are his own, Not Barack Obama.
I agree with Michelle.
Anyone with an ounce of sense will not let Rev Wright dictate their decision on voting for Obama or anyone else. Last time I checked Rev wright wasn’t running for office however he is an opportunist and this has been made very clear. The Clinton’s need to own up to this as well..it seems everyone has gotten selective amnesia in regards to the Clintons knowing, receiving and accepting Rev Wright in the past..there is little to no mention of this yet they harp on Obama’s relationship with this man..my thoughts so what..he is no different than the conspiracy uncle every person has in their family..things he says may be thought provoking or even true..however it has no bearing on you or who you are..birds of a feather don’t always flock together and the media knows this..yet let them tell it there is no such thing as racism..prime example if there ever was one
As far as I am concerned it’s over. Time to move on. I don’t even want to discuss this issue anymore.
I think i love this lady!!! She is the epitome of a strong black woman standing by her man and having her own mind!!!
Funny how quickly they forget, Hillary sought out Rev Wright when the whole Monica Lewinski scandle happened. (Barack being the gentleman that he is will not stoop to Hillary’s tactics). I have seen pics of Bill Clinton with Rev Wright.
Will the media listen and move on. They had nothing left to pin Obama down with, so they start reaching into the bottom of the barrel to pull out Pastor Wright’s remarks to throw at him. The media is something else. I am glad that Michelle said something. I am glad that Obama said something. But, is the media really listening to their request?
How long did they hang Hillary out on the line to dry before all of this. I’m sure it wasn’t this long.
No the media loves the drama of this and the *others* are doing a jig about how this will affect the election if it continues. It’s a shame that it don’t take much for people to lump Obama with all of this because they only need a little kernel of doubt about his intentions. Remember this is huge!!! People on the fence see a black man in our highest office, they are scared and need assurances and Rev. Wright is not reassuring them. He is giving them their greatest fears on a platter that black people all think alike and we all hate them and do not let us get in power cuz we will get even.
Rev Wright who I have only seen thru the media seems a little off…I am very concerned. I wish it was not so.
GO HEAD ON MICHELLE…. SHAKE DEM HATERS OFF!!!!
Yes, Pastor Wright’s timing was VERY, VERY OFF but we Americans, especially us older black Americans, understand his bitterness and where he’s coming from. (The truth hurts but will ultimately set us free.) What hurts me that because of the media bringing up Wight’s SEVEN YEAR OLD speech delivered after 9/11 when our emotions were flaring, Obama has had to denounce his pastor, the man who bought me closed to God and baptized him. (Right after 9/11, Jerry Farwell and Pat Robertson said that this tragedy happened because of gays and decadence in America)
One last thought. White folks constantly tell us black folks to stop whining, to “get over” it. Perhaps it’s time they took their own advance: GET OVER IT AND ELECT THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB, OBAMA. Alas, white folks ain’t ready for no black president. Hell, many of ’em can’t stomach a black supervisor much less a black president. Just some thoughts. As always, I leave you in peace.
Correction in my post: The man who bought him (not me) closer to God and baptized him. Thanks.
You know what…Wright might be a pastor but he is a pastor for personal gain. why is he suddenly trying to get so much media attention? it’s like he allowed the devil to take over. enough is enough. say it and move on…but no this guy won’t quit. it is damaging his respect and credibility and he still keeps yappin’. What a traitor he is! I tell you the media keeps going on and on about this rev.wright thing bcz they have little else to go after Obama with. He is that solid of a guy. the press and the oppossing candidate will always find holes in their opponents and then blow up that hole to make it an ozone gap. so sad how most politicians work.

Michelle is so classy. Barack is blessed.
They have nothing else on Obama so why not get on his pastor? Since when do you care what your President pastor says and feels? When has this ever been an issue? I’m so, so sick of hearing about this man. You think the mainstream media would have showed up to that NAACP event had Rev. Wright not been there giving a speech? This is a pitiful attempt by the media to split up the friendship of two strong black men and its pathetic. Even though Obama publically denounced Rev. Wright, I think they maintain ties with each other.
I agree with her. A persons pastor doesn’t determine who that person is…if that was the way it worked-this World would be in big trouble.
I absolutely love Michelle Obama!! She handled that so well and with class. If you ever get a chance.. go to youtube and listen to her other speeches. She is very down to earth and they are really fighting against the dirty Washington DC politics during this election process.
Let’s move on & get to the real issues facing the American people. Obama 08! You can’t hold a person accountable for the things said by others only by what they say.
The man’s timing may have been bad but, this is according, to people who he is and what stands for and preaches about on occasions. I think he felt he needed to defend himself, I know I would if someone took sound bits of what I said and no everything. I don’t believe he is purposefully trying to harm Obama and the campagne but just defending himself. Yea, some people think he may not should have said some of the things he said but, what he said was among family and probably felt like what he was saying was/is right. He is standing for his people and what he believes in. I believe some of the stuff he said.If he doesn’t stand up for himself who will. And like Michelle stated lets move on already!!!!
Let me first state that once upon a time, I liked Barack Obama. Just wanted to put that out there, but this situation with Rev. Wright has brought so many things out about his character that many people aren’t talking about. And I’m not referring to his belief or opinions, but his true character. Like does anyone have the number to the Drop Squad?
Rev. Wright has the right to defend himself. He was a prominent figure way before we even knew who Barack Obama was. Who the hell is Barack Obama to be denouncing somebody? If he’ll denounce his own pastor, who else will his campaign force him to put on the chopping block?
In his speech on Tuesday, he also showed much disrespect to Min. Louis Farrakhan. How dare he? You don’t have to agree with everything this man says but you can’t downplay the good he has done for the Black community and the city of Chicago especially, Obama’s homestate.
Barack is just trying to play up to the white vote and I don’t like it.
And I was supporting Hillary until she said she would have walked out the church, this woman is married to a man that cheated on her how many times? And did she walk out on him?
No. Shut Up!
So I’m not voting. Maybe the Green Party or somebody will run Independent, I’ll vote for them. Where’s Al Gore???
Seriously, Black Folks, Obama is NOT the one. He loves his racist grandma who openly showed her prejudice of Black Men (he said it in his speech in Philly), but will denounce someone for quoting a U.S. Ambassador and preaching about America’s history of terror like its not documented facts.
Barack Obama just has the color, not the consciousness. And Michelle is just his wife, not the Vice President, who cares what she thinks.
missamerica, just wondering if your read any of the comments in the room. After Willie Boy did his deed in the White House it was Hillary who sought after Rev Wright to clean up their reputation.
I will also add that Rev Wright knew that if Barack was going to run for president that he would have to eventually severe ties with him. This was a dicussion they had back in early 2007.
I applaud Michelle for standing up for her husband. I hear about Rev.Wright everyday on The View with the dang on Elisabeth. She is constantly being told by Whoopi that the rev’s views are not Obama’s. But people have failed to mention the racist comments of Ralph Buchanan which was well addressed on the Tom Joyner morning show by Tavis. I agree with some of the views that Rev. Wright has but I do feel his timing was way way off. At least let him get into office first gosh:)
Tell your mama about obama!!
I love Michelle and I think this situation is sad. I agree with a lot of things that Rev. Wright has to say, but I don’t think this was the time to grandstand. I think he should’ve waited until Barack was elected to go on his media blitz. African Americans are only about 13% of the population (hell and half of us don’t vote), so Barack does need the white vote to get in the White House.
I agree with the poster that stated that the Reverend was out for personal gain. When this information first broke he maybe should have defended himself once. But, damn he’s all over the damn tv now. I didn’t feel like the media pointing his comments out were an attack on the “Black Church”. I felt like it was an attack on his black church and what he speaks about within his church.
He needs to take a back seat, sit in it and zip it.
I also think Michelle should speak about her man. I don’t think she’s giving the air of trying to run for VP. I think she’s just speaking her opinion with regards to her husband and his campaign. Now Bill on the other hand definately needs to sit down and shut it. He’s made so many hateful and unuseful comments in the last 6 months it’s just ridiculous. Most people voting for Hillary are doing so as a way to get Bill back in the White House. Well Bill isn’t running for President his wife is. The more Bill speaks publicly the more he’s shoving his foot down his throat in my opinion and making the country see what an ass he really can be.
I believe it is definately time for a change. We go from Bush to Clinton back to Bush and now possibly back to Clinton. GIVE ME A BREAK!!
Side note: Did anyone notice Hillary bit Obamas campaign. I saw something on the news where she lifted her arm and sayed “Yes we will” my mouth fell open.
One person on this board mentions that Obama’s mother was a racist. Tell me, how in the hell can a white woman, or any woman for that matter, have and RAISE a child by a black man who develops into such a fine, intelligent, good-hearted man as Obama, and be racist? (Hell, if that’s the case, more of these single, black women should marry racist whites ’cause MANY of them have sure failed their male children.) It just doesn’t add up. If she was so racist, why didn’t she put Obama up for adoption when her black man left her? And why does Obama still speak so highly of his mother?
Most white Americans don’t really know what racism is. Racism is power, an institution, a system. Black Americans can be prejudiced against others but not racist. Racism in AMERICA is white supremacy, clear and simple. (If you’re white, you’re right.) As always, I leave you in peace.
@Miamore73
Bill Clinton was President for 8 years, don’t you think if anyone should speak on behalf of their spouse that the person you put the mic in front of?
@ PAHairston
I was referring to his grandmother, not his mother. Barack mentioned in his Philadelphia speech on Race, that his grandmother would say things about Black men that made him cringe.
@ Anna I did read those comments. I don’t know how true that statement was about Hillary consulting with Rev. Wright after Monica Lewinsky. But throughout the history of the White House, prominent religious leaders are always invited to meet/dine there, most times with the President.
This is why I have a problem with the Obamas.
Billy Graham said a lot of things that could come off as offensive or that the majority would not agree. He was spiritual advisor to about 12 or so Presidents.
So why must Obama denounce this man, disown this man just so he can have a chance of being President? If that’s not n**ger treatment I don’t know what it is.
Barack called Rev. Wright’s statements ridiculous. What was so ridiculous? Why is this Rev. being betrayed as bitter and out of touch by so many of his own people?
Why are we so amped to have an African-American in the White House? Especially one that will disown the Black Community if it poses a threat to his campaign and one who takes our votes for granted.
Barack Obama is a politician, its time we treat him as such.
I’m not saying don’t vote for him or support him, but a lot of people are expecting him to really make a difference and move mountains.
There is really no difference between Obama, Clinton, or McCain ~ They are all ready and willing to do whatever it takes to get your vote.
@ missamerica: No I think Clinton shouldn’t speak in the context that he does. He is not running for President so really his views/opinions aren’t more important than his wifes. When he speaks it’s as though he’s forgotten who’s campaign it is.
I think there is a line and he’s crossed it. Michelle offers her opinion as a spouse and supporter not as a running mate unlike Bill.
Also voting for Barack I don’t expect him to make changes just for me as a black person. Let’s face it if he wins he’s got a lot of cleaning up to do behind Bush and more than likely it won’t happen in 4 years. I only expect change. Between gas prices/grocery prices/education/health care any change at this point would be wonderful.

I feel you on that. There is going to be a whole hellof cleaning up to do in the White House. I can’t believe that my grocery bill for 2 ppl is still the same price as it was when there were 5 ppl in the household.
I agree, let’s move past this!
