I feel bad that he ended it, and his life ended the way it did, but GTFOH. I empathize and pitty this “donation” stuff all at the same time.

Here’s the deal; for people to donate, they have to be touched and of course empathize or even sympathize with the situation. I dont know what money he made and apparently didn’t manage properly, but I guarantee it was a helluva lot more than what the average person makes. This brutha cleared mid six figures easily, not counting perks and bonuses. Yes, it is sad if there’s nothing for his girlfriend and kid to live off. I dont know what to tell them. Something tells me not many people will be stopping by any bank to give anything.

I’m one to help out, even with the negative little I make, but no way. Yes, I admired the brutha and bowed down to his level of success at such a young age, but this is ridiculous. It’s just something about celebrities and rich/wealthy, or comfortable living people asking broke ass check to check folks (the public) for money. No sweetie, if he owned the house, hopefully probate will allow her to SELL IT and keep any profit; the same for any cars he may have owned or any other investments. I’m not sure who would handle all of that, mother, girlie, etc. Hopefully he at least had a will.

I’m not being cruel, but nothing in me says’ drive to suntrust and give something.’ In the same respect, nothing in so many of these rich/wealthy/celebrities or people in positions to do more says to them ‘give away one of your 10 cars’ to someone less fortunate; not ya homie, but someone else. AH Michael Jordan said it best on Oprah Winfrey years ago when given the scenario of a homeless guy asking him for money. He said if the guy can ask him for money, he can ask for a job (not a job from him of course)…if you saw the episode, you know i’m not making this up. I was like ‘well damn.’ Hundreds of millions of dollars and you giving 5-10 bucks is a big deal? My broke ass has pulled money out and given it many times, even to this day.

I believe so many of these celebrities are so unapproachable and unappreciative that they wouldn’t reach into THEIR OWN stash to help out, hence drives and donations where they show up, BUT WE DO ALL THE GIVING.

Shakir Stewart, rest in peace. It’s a tragic ending to such a story book life. I wish his family well. In their defense though, what if he did leave them something but there’s some greedy publicist, etc milking the situation???? Again, I’m not giving. These celebrities live lives we can only dream about. Man no way. It’s not hate or jealousy, it’s simply believing that the same wouldn’t be done for most of us. I’m not being a hypocrite. If I listen to the news and something tragic happens and they’re like “the family’s accepting donations to help pay for the funeral….,” I just stare at the screen. I’ve given twice in my lifetime. PRE PLANNING, as another poster stated. Sell off those assets and keep it moving. This is where his industry “friends” need to step it up. I remember reading way back when that after Florence Ballard (Supremes) passed away, Diana Ross did something, set up a trust for the daughters or gave a big lump sum of money…something. THAT’S the kind of “friend” one of these moguls or millionaire artists need to be. Hell, they probably thinking the same way I’m thinking. Poor girlfriend. Beyonce has a song out just for you. It’s called “put a ring on it.” the girlfriends and mistresses dont get ish in a time like this. She does have a leg to stand on since he has a kid. His heir is first in line to everything, even before moms, and definitely before the girlfriend.

Whew, I’ve been waiting to get that off my damn chest ever since I saw the posting.
