The bizarre shooting case of NY Giants’ star wide receiver Plaxico Burress has taken on a new twist. In addition to investigating a NY Giants team member for conspiracy to cover up the shooting, the police are now focusing on hospital workers in the ER at NY hospital/Cornell Medical Center for not reporting Burress’ gunshot wound as required by law.
TMZ has learned the New York State Department of Health has launched an investigation to determine if the hospital that treated Plaxico Burress engaged in a conspiracy to hide information.
The Department of Health — which licenses New York-Cornell Hospital — began its investigation after reports that hospital workers failed to report the gunshot wound, as required by New York law.
According to state law, failing to report a gunshot injury to cops is a class A misdemeanor. Source
In addition to the police investigation, if the hospital is found to have violated its own policy of reporting gun and knife injuries to law enforcement, the state will cite the hospital and assess a hefty fine.
