Prosecutors in Chicago unveiled for the first time yesterday their weak circumstantial evidence against murder suspect William Balfour.

Balfour is charged with murdering actress Jennifer Hudson’s mother, Darnell Donerson, 57, brother, Jason Hudson, 29 and nephew, Julian King, 7.

Prosecutors claim the killings were motivated by jealousy and rage at his wife for seeing another man.

Balfour, 27, originally said he saw his wife Julia Hudson on the morning of October 24 at the Hudson home before she left for work at 8:10 AM. They argued briefly about her seeing another man after he spotted a birthday gift he thought was given to her by her new boyfriend.

Cell phones records show Balfour was in the vicinity of the Hudson home until shortly after 9 AM. Balfour claimed he then took the subway back to his home using his CTA card. But police learned his CTA card was last used two days before the killings.

Prosecutors revealed that gunshot residue was found on the steering wheel of Balfour’s car which witnesses say they saw parked outside the home that morning.

What wasn’t explained was how Balfour drove both his car and Jason Hudson’s SUV away from the murder scene.

Assistant State’s Atty. LuAnn Snow told the judge that Balfour entered the home after first firing a shot through the front door (probably because Donerson wouldn’t let him in). He then shot Donerson in the living room of the home and shot Jason Hudson while he was still asleep in his bed upstairs.

According to the National Enquirer, evidence shows Julian received traumatic injuries while still inside the house. Trauma to Julian’s right hand, which included fractured fingers and lacerations, were consistent with the child’s hand being crushed by a slammed door.

He was carried out of the house wrapped in a shower curtain from inside the home, according to sources.

Julian was shot to death as he lay behind the front seat of his uncle Jason Hudson’s white Chevrolet Suburban. His body was found 3 days later in the truck which was abandoned on Chicago’s west side.

Cook County Circuit Judge Raymond Myles ordered Balfour held without bail on three counts of first-degree murder and one count of home invasion in the Oct. 24 slayings.  (Source)
