I don’t know who originally wrote this but it was forwarded to me and I got a good laugh out of it. If you’re getting on the bus to Washington, you probably should read this to see what you’re in for, lol.
By the way, The author isn’t kidding: the whole of Washington D.C is about the size of downtown Atlanta (or a postage stamp).
Inauguration Issues – Get on the Bus!
Question – where are all of those buses going to? Do all of these folks really BELIEVE they are actually gon’ get anywhere NEAR the ceremony? Brothers and Sistas, we can’t all go to Washington for the ceremony. The city ain’t but so big!
“D.C.” is smaller than Queens. You wasn’t ALL INVITED! I heard of one church that has FIFTY buses going to Washington! Have y’all all lost yo minds?! FIFTY BUSES! Where they gonna go? AN’ you know some of our folks don’t do well in the cold! An’ y’all know ya can’t be draggin’ all yo lawn chairs, beach chairs, picnik chairs an tables wid ya! You gonna hafta stand all through the ceremony. ‘Sides, by the time all them bad hips an’ bad knees gits down there to the lawn, the ceremony’ll be ’bout over!
That brings ta mind another thing! Y’all needs to leave on time! This ain’t goan be like no church piknik or barbeque, an’ it sho ain’t gon start two or three hours late like some gospel show. You church folks might jes as well plan on leaving Sunday mornin’ – do
all yore singin’ an’ prayin’ on the road! Psalm 95 on I-95! (Check it out – it fits!) An’ y’all best be plannin’ on leavin’ right afta the ceremony. They ain’t gon’ let y’all jes tie up Pennsylvania Avenue all daggone day! I can hear it now -“WOULD YOU PLEASE LEAVE THE LAWN,“ STEP BACK OFF THE LAWN!” They ain’t gonna wait while 20 million black folks line up to have they picture taken standin’ in front of the Capitol.An’ all your marchin’ bands, steel pan ensembles, step teams, drill teams,Pee-Wee football, cheerleaders, church choirs, jump-rope teams, Elks, Masons, Bisons, Shriners, Miners, Whiners, Evening Stars, Morning Stars, Falling Stars,Alphas, Deltas, Sigmas, Kappas, Phi Beta Slammas, and fine Gamma Hammas cannot ALL be in the parade. If you ain’t got an invitation ALREADY, you ain’t invited! So jes plan on goin’ down, an’ soon as you inside the city limits – get off the bus, take your pictures and LEAVE, cause with alla you peoples tryin’ to git there at the same time, the closest you likely to get to the capitol will probably be Baltimore in the north and Richmond to the South!
Make sure that you SCHEDULE your time off, an’ that includes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Barack can’t be callin’ all your employers, an’ being stuck in traffic on I-95 comin’ from the Inauguration don’t get you no kinda administrative leave! One other thing – remember back in the day when we was all still upset about racism in America, an’ many of us was convinced that THE MAN was constantly plottin’ our extermination?! Remember when everything was seen as an act of racial GENOCIDE – Welfare Reform; requirements that college athletes meet academic standards to be eligible to play; the DISPROPORTIONATE number of brothas in PRISON; drugs; raising academic standards; even birth control! Well, just suppose there was a way to get ALL of the black people together in one place at the same time.
Then it would be relatively easy to get rid of them. Well, as it seems like just about every black person in America is plannin’ on bein’ at the Inauguration, you don’t suppose that all of this could be part of some sinister MASTER PLAN to get rid of black people, do you? For myself, I plan on stayin’ home that day an’ watchin’ everything on the tee-vee. l’ll probably see mo of it than any of y’all. Besides, all that aroma of all that perfume, hair stylin’ chemicals, curried goat and fried chicken on a bus for 16 hours would drive me plum crazy.
On the other hand, I might jes go down to the church that mornin’ an’ make a few bucks sellin’ some brown-paper-bag-gourmet-food. Besides, there’s gotta be at least ONE person left to tell about all this. Anyway, I hope you have a great time and keep Barack an’ his family in your prayers! Oh yeah, remember – Tuesday, Jan 20, 2009 @ 7:30 p.m. sharp! No matter where you are, or what you doin’ – it’s time for the National Electric Slide!
Slide to the Left! Slide to the Right! Now everybody clap your hands!
SOme ignance at it’s finest, but I do agree that errybody can’t fit down there….
GOOD MORNING FAMILY…………GO GATORS!!
about the post
SMH…..*sigh* Ho Hum
Good Morning fam! Sorry I couldn’t read that old slave talk. I only read English and some Spanish. I do agree that Washington DC is very small.
Good Morn Family …
sadly i don’t think this attempt at “humor” was written by a black person … too stereo-typical …
le’ sigh … le’ sighhhh
MORNING FAMILY! I defintely will NOT be going to DC. I agree I-95 going up there will be backed up for miles!!!
MORNING FAMILY! I defintely will NOT be going to DC. I agree I-95 going up there will be backed up for miles!!!
Making the trip symbolic in itself. However, I’ll be home watching it on tv w/food on the bbq grill here in sunny Miami.
SLAVE TALK AT IT FINEST!!SHS!!
I fly in on the 16th and I can’t wait to mix and mingle!!!! I know how small DC is and so does everybody else who will be in attendance. I went to the million man march(I know women were supposed to stay at home but a million men in one place I had to do it) and this will be even betta!
As much as I hate the Obama post this one made me lol. Mainly bc my co op board has a poster in the lobby for what… you guessed it. A bus trip to DC for 4 days & 3 nights. Priced like its a ski trip.
Everyone is aware of the situation they are heading to and thinks it’s worth it. If I had the money, I’d go myself just to be in the thick of things. I know several people who are going, but no one that actually has a ticket. They don’t care that they don’t get to witness the event. The just want to be in town like Times Square on New Years Eve.
They said the Million Man March couldn’t happen either….
to the author of the little email: Sit down some damn where
@Bird I know somebody with a ticket and I told him to take some GOOD pictures!
Also, the city has made arrangements for ALL the buses that they know will be rolling into town.
I’m convinced that it wasn’t written by a black person .. simply because of the term “picnik” .. the term Picnic was coined during the lynching erar of out Strong but painful history …when the crackers/klan would lynch a black man for some minute or even nonexistant crime .. they would “celebrate” with food blankets and gather to watch the hanging of the Nicca they picked .. hence the term pic-nic= pick a nicca to hang … most blacks I know don’t use that term at all…
soooo to the author of this lil ignant azz ditty …
consider yourself a new memener of the SITCHOAZZDOWN club !
Today or yesterday I got an update from the inaugural committee reminding folks that children can’t get in on their parent’s ticket unless they are too young to walk. No strollers, diaper bags, umbrellas are allowed on the grounds and the west grounds (I think that is what it said) is entirely exposed. They also say it will likely be very cold going so far to state that it’s generally 27 degrees on inauguration day. Clearly the temp is not the same everytime, yet they are will to say anything to discourage as many people as possible from coming, but I assure you it ain’t gonna work. I’m sure millions will be there.
Am I the only one who hopes no fights will break out?….I’m kinda nervous about ignorance making the big screen and dimming the light of this event in the media. I really hope no one embarasses the president and his family.

WOW!!! How’d he get them? My lucky nephew will be performing in the parade. He is in the Hampton University Marching Band.
Oh and by the way…….
GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Superbowl bound baby!
@Bird my cousin went to both of Bushes Inuag. She worked for the CEO of a county in the metro Atlanta area. Of course this go round he was only able to get two tickets as outgoing CEO, so she didn’t make the cut this yr which she pretty much knew already.
@Bird I live in the A but I am from NC so yes indeed GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ Krysi… I’ve never wanted to be a part of a large black crowd since Freaknik. I know that this is a much more mature crowd and hopefully a lot less alcohol will be involved. I’d just rather not.
This article is very stereotypical and as MUCH as it pain me to admit it… TRUE. That’s why I think a black person did write it. It’s not what’s being said, it’s the condesending way he’s saying it that’s foul.
Freaknik..SMH…those were the days. @Krysi, I want everyone to be on the best behavior but you know there will be one fool to cut up.
I had plans to go … staying with my Uncle who got ticket(S) … but I remembered I can-NOT do crowds … Shoot .. I call myself goin to one of those Old School Saturday events they have downtown (in the A) .. and when it gets sooo packed .. I have to leave .. can’t take it.. too many people .. too much can happen …
GOOD MORNING MY LOVELY QUEENS
Kymmie throwing some history up in here today…
But I agree with you all this isn’t no brotha or sista writing this….But one thing I can say is when we did the Million Man March a lot of people got there listen and left that night…
morning Ielon .. what did I tell u about dissappearing .. u have email addresses .. u need to let folk know u still breathing my brotha ! ! ! ! ! :lolol:
Yeah, and yall know how it goes when there is no room, a lot of pushing a shoving, stepping on toes, bumping into people…O LAWD. There are going to be a lot of “Nicca moments” -Boondocks. I just pray YT doesn’t get any on camera.
Morning family – this wasn’t funny. I’ll be watching at home…no vacation hours ’til March..
I pray that things are peaceful. Kym I had no idea about the original term of picnic then again I am from a majority white town in Ohio so maybe that is why.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hopefully no riots and deaths
I’m sorry again love but I’ve been in meeting after meeting at different locations of where I work and it’s been hard to get to a computer…also I don’t have any email addresses but if you would like to send one mines is ielon.carr@mhcd.org
Shunda … i grew up in NJ .. my grandmother who is 92 .. was born in 1916 told us all about ” Jim Crow” .. her mother was born in 1882 just shy of slavery .. so we heard all about First hand Stories ….
AwwwWWW hell, Charles we ain talking about you’re serial killing antics. I bet you’re in Washington right now ain’cha YT. I HOPE they catch your sniping aZZ on camera! ain no JFK goinZ on in the ’09!!
I live in DC and they are estimating 1.5 mil will probably come in, I think they’ll be many more. There are going to be NUMEROUS road blocks, and traffic will be a nightmare. We’re right downtown, by the gov’t buildings and Mall area, so we’re closed for the day. The bottom line is that people want to be a part of history..so let them come! How cool will it be to tell your grandkids that you were at the inauguration of the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT even if you were no where near the ceremony! AND to answer Sarcastic Sandra’s question..the buses will probably go to RFK stadum or FED-Ex field, where they’ll have shuttles to take the people downtown.
well i will be there and i’m pretty excited. i’m going on a bus trip….60 bucks….
My grandma is 90 and I have heard first hand stories as well. She is from a town called Cottonville so that says it all. Some ppl will dispute the orgin of the word picnic, just like some don’t believe the Willie Lynch letters are real. I don’t use the term picnic once I heard where the word came from.
@24…Old School Saturday is sooooo much fun! I have a blast each time I go. Yes, it gets a little packed. I’d admit it but there’s nothing like grown folks having a good time without any drama.

Actually I have been researching the heck out of it since I read that comment and there is every indication that the information is not correct (sorry Kym), but was distributed as an email hoax. Picnic comes from the French term pique-nique which referred to a dinner gathering where the participants brought their own alcohol. It popped up in German as picknick before making it to English as picnic. It has nothing to do with roasting negroes.
@Yvonne sometimes the crowd can be to young. I usually only go a few times in the summer. I have some friends who want to go tomorrow but I will be watching the game tomorrow night.
This is a very historical moment and I would love to go, but I will be at home watching it on CNN with my daughter. Her school (private black school in Atlanta) is closed in honor of that day.
@36- Those Willie Lynch letters are something else. Even if the authenticity of the letters my be questionable, the content certainly makes you think and allows room for dialogue.
@Bird I just said somebody was going to dispute the origin of that word..lol I knew it was coming.

My city in Ohio is mixed and I never knew this either.
@Daisy-How young? I haven’t been in about 6 months or so. The times I’ve went (in the summer)there always seemed to be a mature crowd. Don’t tell me there are folks 21-25 in there now! Say it ain’t so

Thanks Bird.
@Yvonne I have always seen 25yr olds up in the place. Not sure about 21yr olds. The A has fallen off when it comes to 30 and older spots IMO. The places that are nice or the hot spots are to small (M Bar, Harlem Bar etc). I don’t hang much in the winter (very cold natured) but I do like to get out in the spring/summer. Have you ever been to playdate?
Bird .. then you tell my Grandmother .. who told me the story when I was say 5-6’ish .. that she heard and saw was simply a french term
anyway … I’ll believe Naomi before wiki or anyone else
I would love to go but just imaging all those people crowded in that tiny spot makes me hyperventilate.
A 52in flat screen with snacks & drinks will do just fine :O)

hehehehe. Yeah I saw your comment after I had posted and thought, “Uh oh. Is Webster and Britannica trying to pull a fast one on black folk.” But then I remembered how my own family history has been skewed by word of mouth. I’ma have to side with the official folks on this one.
It has nothing to do with roasting negroes.

Yea, thats not only an old email host, but also a very old subject that was like you said discredited. I didn’t wanna say nothing, it ain that serious anyway. The letter is TOM foolery.
*hoax*…still tripping off deez GATORS i guess!!
Amazing what you learn on a blog! I went to wordorigin.com and checked it out myself!

See you need to come on home to North Cack. Charlotte’s over 30 clubs are on point and even the ones with a slightly younger crowd are still cool. I have yet to see a fight at a club in the 5 years I have been in Charlotte because I only go to the mature spots.
@Bird BOOOO I grew up partying in Charlotte. I was just there last mth when I went home and will be back in Feb/march for CIAA. I am not impressed with their night life. They can’t keep a nice decent club open for longer than 6mths it seems like..lol
BTW I am from Salisbury or smallsbury as I say.
Daisy
Savoy has been open since I got here. Tempo opened about 3 years ago and became my favorite spot. CJ’s and V-Lounge are the only really cool mature spots that have closed sinec I been hear. CJ’s because the hotel it was in was sold and V-Lounge isn’t really closed, but changes names everytime I turn around. Then there’s always Dirty Thirty Thursdays at Excellsior.
I tell you black folks need to let go of this crabs in a barrel mentality…
Their will be 8 official balls and about a 100 unofficial not mention every club in dc will be full. If this isn’t a time for people to take their kids to dc to see the first black man sworn into presidency then when is a good time to go to dc? I swear its black folks who hate on president Obama more than white folks and that is scary.
this is going to be a historical event. however, have common sense people. i’m from dc and i’m not even going. i went home thanksgiving and the traffic approaching VA alone took 2 hours to get through. trust me this city is not that big…and will not be able to handle 3 million more people coming to it. GOOD LUCK!!!
i will be going to the ciaa too. can’t wait!
@ teecee..I couldn’t agree more!
My fiance’s friend is actually sponsoring an event @ The Muse on 1/17. I don’t really do clubs anymore (even if it is a semi-formal event or even for the networking) so I don’t know that I’m going, but there will definitely be something for everybody in DC. They’re not closing the bars until 5 am, so you know the white folks will be happy!
….which is why I will be recording it while at work and watching when I get off…lol
I’ll be at the inaug, but I was lucky enough to get tickets and a hotel room, thank goodness! If I get close enough to see anything but other folks heads, I’ll share my pics!

COSIGN! This was not written by any black person. But Kym, I thought that the picnic thing was an urban legend? Let me go google it, I want to know for sure because if it’s true, then I’m going to be really mad at this “bus” letter.
Nevermind everyone googled it already.
@Bird I know all the spots you mentioned and was not impressed by any but I did use to wear out CJs..lol Charlotte is okay but it has nothing on the A!
@Ecst how did you get tickets?
HILARIOUS!!! AND TRUE!
ok then dammit I will have a picnic just to change the use of the word whether it is true or not. There problem solved.A friend of a friend is DC is renting out their house like a Bed and Breakfast. Now that is a good idea.
That writer was black all day long because aside from coonish talk, it’s totally true.
White people aren’t smart enough to move past making the obvious chicken, watermelon, and singing Kumbuya and We Shall Overcome comments.

okay so I have to admit I giggled at this part. I’ve takent the 19th and the 20th off. I plan on celebrating MLK day and inauguration with my husband and children. I feel so blessed to be able to witness true history in the making that affects us all so deeply.
And come on – white people don’t have this much intimate knowledge of blacks. Of course A BLACK PERSON WROTE THIS. Hell, he is saying everything I’M thinking.
I know nobody cares enough to debate this, but I’ll at least back up where I am coming from. I’ve read a lot about past advertising using Af-ams in the Jim Crow era: postcards, toothpaste, you name it, black faces have been on it. If you look at past advertisements for Cream of Wheat (look for the old ones with Rastus) from the early 20th century, you will see what I mean. This is the same damned vernacular. Words like “jes,” and “an'” and all the apostrophes, show someone who was STRUGGLING to death with butchering the English language. Now we’ve all been on the internets long enough to know, that when someone butchers English, they are doing it all the way, they are not checking for apostrophes. Also look at this veiled insult:
“Make sure that you SCHEDULE your time off, an’ that includes Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Barack can’t be callin’ all your employers, an’ being stuck in traffic on I-95 comin’ from the Inauguration don’t get you no kinda administrative leave! Well, just suppose there was a way to get ALL of the black people together in one place at the same time.”
Take note to the things they mention. That is an INSULT people. That’s what the others think af-ams don’t like or want. All those mentioned above are good things. Then “the man”? WHO USES THAT ANYMORE?
Also this, this worries me A LOT:
Then it would be relatively easy to get rid of them.
Why is this at the beginning of a new paragraph? It has nothing to do with anything and finally….
IF the person was indeed af-am, wouldn’t he/she say “US?”
Something in the milk ain’t clean and I am not buying…
IF the person was indeed af-am, wouldn’t he/she say “US?”
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not if they are mixed but able to pass and do not identify with being black but still know the “lingo”. They would never use “Us”, in describing what/who they don’t want to be.
People do the situation going in. I wanted to…i seriously thought about. But you know what…i get a good view from my TV
@Shunda I am staying at a friends house she will be in FL when I arrive on the 16th. She comes back in town on the 19th. She said she wouldnt dare charge a friend, I said girl I wouldnt have paid you anyway..lol I have known her since I was 16 she knows betta..lol
D.C. traffic is horrible when nothing is happening. Its worth it if you really want to say you were there. I’d rather see it happening, then just standing in the same city while its happening out in the cold.
@Anna,
Excellent point, that’s why I don’t think this was written by an af-am.
I’m volunteering at the inauguration!!!
I have orientation this weekend and that’s when I’ll find out exactly where I will be assigned.
Just thought I would share LOL!!!!!!
Congratulations Katie!!!
black folks love that unity for only 24 hours stuff. Y’all betta go to work, economy is crumbling
i thought it was funny. everywhere i go (yesterday at the west end mall) SOMEBODY is going on a bus ride.
