After fumbling the oath of office yesterday, Barack Obama took the oath again at the White House tonight without the pomp and circumstance of yesterday’s affair.
Amid Constitutional concerns, Chief Justice Roberts was ushered into the Map Room of the White House at 7:35 PM where he administered a second oath to Obama in front of the press pool.
A White House official said:
“We believe that the oath of office was administered effectively and that the president was sworn in appropriately yesterday. But the oath appears in the Constitution itself. And out of an abundance of caution, because there was one word out of sequence, Chief Justice Roberts administered the oath a second time,” (LINK)
It is the first time in history that a new president had to retake the oath of office.
