Video: Biggie’s Children CJ and Tyanna Interact

This video of Notorious B.I.G.’s children Tyanna and CJ is so cute! You can tell they have a great relationship with each other.

Faith Evans also seems to have a good relationship with Tyanna. At one point she comes into the room and asks Tyanna, “aren’t you on punishment?” You can tell she’s a good mother. I take back everything bad I said about Faith.

One thing I noticed was how white the children sound. I know I’ll get ripped for that but so be it. You can pretend not to notice the speech difference in black kids that were raised in the suburbs versus the hood. But I’m not going to ignore it. Of course that’s not a bad thing — until these kids grow up and out of their environment where they have to interact with regular black folk.

The other part of this video I found interesting was Biggie’s children don’t know all the lyrics to his songs. You would think the children of the g.o.a.t. would know the words to every song in Biggie’s catalog.

i was raised in the hood and i still live in the hood , but i know how to put together a sentence and speak proper english . as long as you are raised right it doesn’t matter what your surroundings are.

That was absolutely beyond adorable. They are too cute and it is wonderful that they have a relationship. Biggie must have done a little something right in the mama picking department.

I know I’ve said before that I grew up in the projects “speaking white” People in my hood were used to me, they have always pointed out my speaking “defect” and they continue to do so til this day. But in the “real world” I am around people who speak like me the vast majority of the time and with the education I’m sure these children are sure to get, they will likely be surrounded by people as articulate as they are for the rest of their lives. Speaking well will never be a problem for them. I promise. It’s the other way around.

I have been teased all my life for the way I speak. My aunt told me to tell kids I was not speaking proper I was speaking correct English. My daughter is now going through this phase, she has been called an oreo and valley girl. The thing about it is this is by her black peers. Now mind you she goes to school with a total of 7 black kids in K-8. Two of them being mine. I am glad she has a good self image and does not worry about it.

There is a difference between the people raised in the suburbs and those raised in the hood/trailer park. However, suburb does not equal white. So your comment should have been, “One thing I noticed is how SUBURBAN the children sound”.

I was teased most of my life as well. I will not try to talk ghetto just to fit in! It embarrasses me when I hear black folks using improper grammar and sounding completely ignorant like a damn fool! I know one thing though, I bet I get that job before “ms. hood” does. I work for a very well respected physician here in Phoenix and that hood shyt aint gon fly!

Big didn’t really get a chance to be a father. In the movie, his daughter’s mom complained about him not spending time with the child and CJ was born after he died if I recall correctly. The kids got that money because Faith is a good, fair woman. As the wife of a husband with no will she could have taken everything, but she seems to have shared the wealth. We never heard of any financial bickering in this family despite there being no will and that is darn near unheard of when a lot of money is involved. Even Kim benefitted from her generosity when Big first died.

“Sounding white” – it’s these type of stereo types that help continue to divide us. just like you have “textbook French/Spanish” vs local dialect – it’s the same with English. there’s a CORRECT way to speak and then theres the myriad of local dialects. I’ve always wondered why the ignorant folks always think it’s an insult to “sound white” when speaking our NATIVE tonque. hell if you can’t speak your native language correctly then I’d seriously question your intelligence.

I don’t think there is anything that irks me more than someone referring to PROPER ENGLISH as “talking white”. WTF does that mean. When someone says that I take it to mean that speaking “Black” is the broken ghetto English, like that’s all we’re good for, they expect nothing less than us to spur ebonics.

I grew un in the Englewood neighborhood of Chicago which is one of, if not the worse section of Chicago and guess what, I speak proper English and so does most of the people in my family. We grew up with nothing but blacks until I was like 15 years old.

This is just an ignorant sterotype that gets under my skin. Even white people ask me what is talking Black? What is talking White? Is there a difference? ummmm no there isn’t.

I grew up in Oak Cliff, a section of Dallas that is often called “the hood,” and trust me – I can act hood with the best of them. But, I was also raised to speak properly and since I have an English degree, I guess I turned out ok.

Sandra, sorry – that was one of your more ignorant statements. I consider myself “regular” black folk and by your loose and implied definition, you seem to think someone like me wouldn’t speak well and would be insulted by someone who spoke proper English.

To me, “sounding white” is an accent…how can anyone on this board deny it? u would be ignorant NOT to understand what sandra means. 99% of the time, when the tv is on and i’m not LOOKING at the screen, i can guess if its a black or white person talking. it has NOTHING to do with proper english…it is a way of speaking…like an accent and way you pronounce words. just like rapping…gotta have a certain flow and be able to deliver the lyrics in a believable way. a white and black person could be given the exact same lyrics to rap and the way they deliver might sound completely different!

if anyone watches the BACKYARDIGANS on Noggin, you should know its black kids behind the voices. the VERY FIRST time i saw that cartoon, i said “wow those cartoons “sound black”…had nothing to do with them sounding hood or not speaking proper english…its just something anyone should be able to pick up and recognize. and sure enough when i looked it up online, i found out that the creator of Backyardigans was a black woman and the kids cast to do the voiceovers were mostly black kids. so i was right in thinkin they “sound white”…big deal!!!!

I agree. Some black people in the inner city and even in the suburbs speak broken English and many whites speak proper English. The difference is clear. Speaking broken English won’t get you a job at a Fortune 500 company. So maybe instead of getting offended because I pointed out the obvious — our people should learn to speak properly.

I get so sick of people in general, but mainly our own black people putting down the way a black child or adult speaks “proper English”. There is no black or white language. If thats the case why not talk about asian language, puertorican language, jamaican language, london language, north/south/east/ or west coast language. My point is that it all depends on your surroundings and how you were raised to speak!!! Give these kids a break, they are kids, and should speak properly, and should not be repeating the lyrics of their father until they are grown enough to do so.

its not a different “language” tho…its the way people sound…sandra only mentioned white because tyanna has a white accent (in my opinion)…she also has a black one…she goes back and forth lol…but definitely i hear it in her a lot.

i just thought of something, when i watch Mob movies, those guys sound the same! they have a WAY of speaking, they SOUND a certain way…and its no more or less PROPER than anyone else…it is a distinct speech, however. is it safe to say that you can tell when an italian is speaking a lot of the time? i mean damn its not offensive, its reality!
