Quincy Brown – A Letter to My Father, Al. B. Sure *Updated*

UPDATE:
My apologies to Russell Simmons. I just heard the full story behind Al B. Sure’s relationship with his son. They were born on the same day and you would think that man could pick up the phone and call his own son on his own birthday! Al has 4 other kids, but only Quincy is his twin!

Quincy was right to write this letter in order to heal his emotional wounds. This is something Albert needs to read!

And let this be a lesson to other dead beat dads who sling seed but aren’t man enough to take responsibility for their children.

I could say a LOT more, but I promised someone I wouldn’t.

Quincy Brown, Al B. Sure’s son with Kim Porter, wrote an emotional open letter to his father on Russell Simmons’ Global Grind web portal. The letter describes Quincy’s yearnings to be closer to his biological father while growing up.

Albert Brown, also known as “Al B Sure!” is my biological father, but Sean Combs, also known as “Diddy” has been a father figure in my life for as long as I can remember. Sean Combs is the person whom I look up to and appreciate as a father. He is the one who help mold me into the person I am today and will always try to live up to his expectations. He has always been supportive of me and I will forever love and respect him. As far as my biological father goes, the “spitting image” is all I have taken from him. Throughout my life, I’ve always wondered about him; Where he was? What was he doing? and most importantly, Was he even thinking about me? Yeah I’m confused too. Is Al B. participating in the parenting of Quincy or not? Quincy doesn’t seem to think so.

I did however see an interview on BET J where Al B. seem to make reference to everything not being what it seemed with his son.

I saw this on another site and found it to be suspect at best. There are 3 sides to every story. I just find it odd that he would go public with this now if this is truly how he feels. Stranger things have happened but I am not convinced just yet. Al I will give you the benefit of the doubt for now. Anybody who has seen Puffy and Q interact know they are close though which isn’t a bad thing.

Well I do remember Diddy treating him like his own son during his SWEET special. I thought it was great and I wondered where his father was. You dont even her AL B SURE talk about his son (he has a radio show)…..Anyhow I just got the vibe from Qunicy that Diddy did step up to the bat so y clown DIDDY….You guys know if you had the money you would shower your kids with things. He also referred to Diddy as his father,,kids know when your being phone. Qunicy stay up and I commend diddy this time anyway. The jury is still out on Diddy and the women in HIS LIFE.

I know that young Q is growing into a man, so he is going to form his own opinions and whatnot, but putting your father on blast is disrespectful. My father didn’t do ish for me but I never talk bad about him because I had the love and support from my mother and my grandparents.

I think Quincy is closer to Diddy because that’s who his mom was with most of his life. My son’s dad is in his life and they are close but his dad lives in another state so they don’t see each other as much as they would like to, so it happens that my son is closer to my daughter’s father because that’s who is with him every day and interacts with his physically daily. Younger kids don’t always understand why a parent can’t be there physically (due to work or whatever). It just appears that they’re not there and it is the parents’ responsibility to explain as I have done with my son so he just knows he’s blessed to have 2 dads. If Kim wouldn’t have shuffled him from pilar to post behind Diddy, maybe him and his dad would be closer (just my speculation). But who knows..

@ Topic… hmmm. I remember a few years back when Misa was going thru the child support drama. She said its was hard for her to “compete” with Puffy bc he had millions. So her son would go there live the life & then come home to real life.

I think a lot of this Puffy is the better father has to do with Puffy has the deeper pockets. Not to take anything away from Puff bc he did step into the shoes and held it down. But how many tears has this boy saw his mother shed over this man.

I think if he had an issue with his dad he should’ve taken that up with his dad.

#25 i feel you. but, my daughter’s father lives in another state as well…and it’s just like he’s here. i make her accessible to at all times. meaning, answering his calls. keeping him in the loop with school etc…and she has a realtionship with my man as well. but, she knows she only has one father..and that’s the way i’m keeping it.

Ok, i gotta come back and say this…this is a GOOD SONG, compared to what a lot of other rap music has been about over the years…the message is good, simple and inspirational! The song does serves a POSITIVE purpose and I hope a helps a lot of youth navigate through their personal storms.

Even though the real story/circumstances behind the artist singing it may be contrived; and I don’t think that Sean Combs is THAT GREAT of a person, I think the song is worthy of praise.

@brwn..he knows dad is dad and his sister’s dad is not his “dad” but he doesnt treat him any different. He talks to his dad all the time, almost everyday, but when he is playing football or hitting a homerun and looks to the sideline for cheers and support it’s me and and my daughter’s dad there. Those are times his dad won’t be able to get back. So for him to say he has 2 dads is a blessing because a child can never get too much love but I’m not shuffling my baby all over behind no damn man-especially not sperm donating diddy. He may have been a dad to him but he’s fathering many more and I’m not sure if that’s the example for a young man to want to be when he grows up unless he’s donating sperm for money or to help those who can’t reproduce naturally.

um yeah I saw Sweet 16 and Puff was in the forefront more than Kim. I don’t know if that would be a good example of being a good parent, not to say tha Puffy isn’t but throwing a 100k or more party isn’t a requirement to be a good parent.

I agree. She was so busy chasing behind Puff trying to get that ring that she probably made it impossible for him to want to come around. I don’t know the full story & now that Q has tried to throw his pops to the wolves I hope Al speaks out on this. He probably was trying to take the high road & not shyt on Kim.

Its unfortunately Kim’s curse for being the type of woman she is. Instead of being with a man because of his wealth and placing herself and her son in that situation…she should have put more thought into dating a celebrity. I mean really you never know when a celeb will fall off, you never know when they will go broke so all these golddiggers running up behind one are jokes. If you are going to be that type of woman, please just get your money and keep it moving don’t bring children into your selfishness, because they always get the short end of the stick. Kim more likely than not, has just some blame in the strained relationship between her son and his father. I know my relationship with my father is strained largely due to the anger and bitterness that my mother held on to for years. Maybe she kept us from him because she believed he might have hurt, disappointed and fail us the way he failed her as a husband, I don’t know… but the older I get the less I place 100% blame on my father for the way things turned out.

Ladies– even if you hate your ex-man’s guts, you should not step between him/her and his child. Even if they don’t have a dime to their name, if they are willing to at least walk around the park with the offspring or just sit and talk, that means LOADS more than sending them a child-support check or a pair of sneakers here and there.

As a single father, I don’t comprehend how anybody can just live with themselves knowing they have a child out here, leaving it to fend for itself. Out of the whole deal, the kid has absolutely nothing to do with the decision both parents or more like f%%ckers made.

I guess I’ll put my story out there. I used to think my dad wanted nothing to do with me. The only thing I have for him is his name. I used to carry a lot of resentment towards him but now, not so much. As an adult now I can see how it’s possible for my mom to have been a factor in my dad having nothing to do with me. He died when I was 15 and I was at the funeral thinking, I don’t even know this man. Now that I can understand, I don’t have him to explain what really went on. And I mourn over a relationship that could have been. I don’t miss my dad because I never knew him to miss him. But I miss the potential. So hopefully Al and Quincy can mend before something unfortunate happens to either of them. And for all you women out there, please make sure that you don’t keep your children from their fathers. It causes so much hurt and feelings of neglect…and it may never be able to be repaired. It’s not worth it.

You guys are right….I mean we really don’t know, but he seems to have a good relationship with Quincy’s older brother who was on that singing show with AL there to watch and for support. (Can’t rem. the name) But Idk why he would be so close to him and not Quincy…he can’t deny him as his child so that can’t be it either. I’m thinking it has something to do with Kim. Maybe not that she kept him away but she is def. involved somehow.

I also was raised without my father in my life. I also am the spitting female image of him. I’ve since forgiven my father for his absence and he’s passed on. Quincy is going to have a way to deal with whatever pain or resentment he’s dealing with towards his biological father and move on. It’s only going to hurt him in the long run.

Diddy appears to be a self centered egotistical butt hole BUT when it comes to this situation he’s just the best. Whether he was there all the time or not whether he just provided financial support whether he was only there on birthdays…HE WAS THERE!!! We don’t know the extent of the relationship between Diddy and Quincy but what we do know is that he was there.

I couldn’t continue reading the remainder of the letter ‘cuz for some reason the page would not appear. That’s was very heartfelt what Quincy expressed, but why now, when Diddy been that father figure from the beginning. (And I guess this is what Quincy wants).

Anyhoo, my opinion: I could careless for reaching out to someone who hasn’t been in my life majority of the times. I was raised by my mom. I knew of my sperm donor (ok, father) but I just never cared to get to know him/tell him how I feel, ’cause whenever he came around/saw him, he rarely expressed any interest towards me. So I consider my mom as my father figure plus, I have a older brother as well so I was good.

But for Quincy, I applaud him for doing what you did (quite sure it took alot of guts) and you made a valuable point when u mentioned:”The absence of my father has given me a better understanding of what type of man I am going to be.” – That’s it right there and life goes on.

I get where Quincey is coming from. Like millions of others, our stories are pretty similar. Obviously the time Al has carved out for Quincey lately is not enough. He needs to have that conversation with his child, but if Al B. is like my dad it won’t change things. I can’t just tell him to get over it. The fact is his father is an idiot. As for Diddy I don’t know how lucky the boy and future women in his life are because of that association. Diddy is an absentee partent for his own kids and not the best example of manhood. But at least he has someone to look up to and he has had a priveledged life.
