A friend of mine has a weirder sense of humor than I do. After telling him that I might be taking a trip to Hawaii over the Summer, he emailed me this image of a coconut crab that is indigenous to the Pacific islands.

He said it’s normal to see mammoth coconut crabs running loose in the neighborhood like stray dogs knocking over garbage cans searching for food scraps.

I told him, oh yeah? Well, I won’t be going to Hawaii then because if I see something like that walking down the street, I won’t survive to talk about my experience.

My friend says the crabs are harmless, but I don’t care. There are certain sights that my heart just can’t take. And seeing a crab the size of a garbage can is one of them.
