Kandi Burruss’ Ex-Fiance Beaten To Death; Arrest Made in the Case

The ex-fiance of RHOA Kandi Burruss was fatally beaten during a brawl outside an Atlanta strip club earlier tonight.

Friends say Ashley “A.J.” Jewell, a former drug dealer, was beaten and stomped by a group of men in the parking lot of famed strip club The Body Tap early Saturday morning. He was transported by ambulance to Piedmont hospital where he died from blunt force injuries to the brain.

Police questioned patrons inside the club after the incident but no arrests were made. Contrary to rumors, no guns or knives were involved.

The news of AJ’s death spread rapidly through the industry via Twitter and word of mouth. Jewell was very popular within Atlanta’s music industry, but he gained exposure on a national level via the reality TV show RHOA as Burruss’ fiance who was scorned by her mother for having multiple baby mamas. The couple separated after the premiere of Season 2, but they remained friends.

AJ leaves behind 6 beautiful children.

Update: Sources say AJ was in negotiations to buy The Body Tap when he was killed.

Police have arrested a “person of interest” in the fatal beating of club promoter Ashley “A.J.” Jewell last night. Frederick Richardson will be taken into custody when he’s released from a local hospital where he was treated for injuries sustained in the “one on one” fight at The Body Tap, a local strip club.

Jewell was a co-owner of the club and promoted celebrity events there.

This is extremely sad. She is my favorite person on RHOA. Kandi, her family and his family are in my prayers. Whether or not you and your ex break up on good terms, there is always a chance to mend fences but when that person passes away, you do not have that opportunity. I hope Kandi and AJ had that opportunity before his passing.

I had the pleasure of meeting A.J. and thought he was the nicest guy and loved watching him on the show. He always had a smile on his face when I saw him at events. Why is there a need to beat somebody to death? I mean I can understand a fist fight, but where does it get to the point that you have to keep on hitting someone to the point of killing them? My heart bleeds for the young men and women growing up today. We all know she cared deeply for AJ (hell she adopted 2 of kids – if that ain’t love I don’t know what is…I barely want to be bothered with my own sometimes). Everyone grieves different people who can’t function for months after the loss of a loved one doesn’t necessarily mean they were more hurt then someone who lost a loved one and goes back to work the next week. After six hours of no posting, obviously to deal with this situation, she put in writing that she had been crying and her eyes were swollen and she was going to cry herself to sleep. She thanked people and asked for prayers fa aj’s lil ones. SR, ur reaching. The people who called you were just looking for some crap to talk about, though there was nothing valid.

her friends were making themselves available if she needed them. now had she logged in and talked about what she ate for dinner and a new joke riley heard, i’d be on your side, SR. you’re wrong in this case. I get the impression, could be wrong, that Kandi gives 100% and loves hard of the people in her life. I would not want to be in her shoes right now. An uncle this week, fiance/friend next week. Contrary to what people are saying SR, NOBODY consumes themself with death the whole night or week. If she were the widow who had to plan his farewell, perhaps. I just found out about this and i was shocked(i know i’m late)but man this world is getting out of control may he rest in peace and his family cop with this situation and i’ll be praying for them.

@sandra-Aren’t you a nurse? When people are depressed they sleep alot sometimes with the help of medication you can and other times it’s insomnia. I lost my sister and for a year i surfed the internet and slept. I had breast cancer and went thru chemo and radiation.I stayed on computer and slept. I was diagnosed depressed etc. I would escape my situation via internet or sleep. I am cancer free but still carrying a load as others and have a heart condition and severe neuropathy in my legs and I am handling the situation differently than my mother-in-law who had breast cancer at the same time and has some side effects from chemo.

Don’t judge the next man because we are all different and handle things differently. I had to really deal with my family judging how I deal with things. Keep the shade and judgement to yourself. I am healed and I pray for Kandi and AJ’s family. You sweeping around someone’s door again Sandra.

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Check your breast often. Thank God for Life.

Wow my mother just called and woke me up telling me this. I’m so sorry to hear this. i dont want to bring up the chi town incident but from the video that i watched from the fight it looked like that “innocent” lil boy was involved in the fight as well. from the story that i heard i was thinkin he was walkin and minding his business when some thugs jumped him for no reason. clearly it was dmn near a riot in the streets and he didnt run away from the scene. some people can be in the wrong place at the wrong time as well but uh…the tape dont lie!

starr…I see the video as you do. The story was that they were walking from school to the bus stop to go home, walked up on the fight, saw someone he knew being jumped on, tried to pull him away from the fight and ending up…well you know the rest. Some people see him swinging as if he was involved in the fight and some people swinging to get people off of him. It’s all in how you look at it and who’s story you believe. We’ve only heard the story I mentioned above, not him actively participating so we may never know.

They say AJ’s killer is the club owner’s ex-husband, who was also part owner of the strip club. Supposedly, AJ and Veronica were kickin’ it. The fight took place inside the club, not outside. And it occurred in the late evening before the club opened, which is why there was no security around to stop the fight. This is all speculation, of course.

They tried to make it seem like it was some cover up because they took him to the hospital as opposed to waiting to the emt. If someone is dying why not drive them to the hospital? Masonmom=about the chicago incident; I said the same thing. He wasn’t just standing there minding his business and got clucked across the head for nothing. I got the impression that he was mixed in with the nonsense, got caught off guard and the dude clubbed him across the head. He wasn’t completely innocent in all of this. Some people on here just AMAZE, seriously.

I’ve heard 3 different stories about his death and will not comment until I hear which one is the truth.

If more than one person contributed to the death of AJ then the evidence will show that. If this Veronica chick is involved more than what they are saying then her time will come and she’ll probably sing like a bird.

No matter what the story is a fight shouldn’t end with loss of life. I tend to believe the part of the story about Veronica though. If your husband was injured enough to end up in the hospital, how do you end up leaving him and taking AJ? That doesn’t make sense to me. Also, the fight started in the club, ended up out of the club where there are supposed to be witnesses but yet the police are accepting this one on one fight scenario? I can’t wait until the true comes out.

Why is it so hard to believe that AJ had his own money? If he was this “drug dealer” as some would like us to believe or he had “shady” business dealings, why can’t he have his own? Why does Kandi have to be taking care of him? If they weren’t together anymore why would she be giving him a million dollars?

Grieving over the loss of someone’s life has nothing to do with whether or not you were “#1” or for what reason they were killed. Loving a person doesn’t stop just because the relationship didn’t work.
