Hunger, Anger, Desperation Fuels Looting in Haiti Updated

Aid is pouring into earthquake ravaged Port-au-Prince, Haiti from all over the globe. But the trucks carrying much needed medicine, food and water to the survivors are being hampered by looters who blocked the roads with corpses and debris. The FAA has canceled flights into the tiny island’s jam packed airport because of the lack of concrete to land a plane on.

Singer/songwriter Wyclef Jean, a native of Haiti, calls the situation in Haiti an apocalypse. Speaking via telephone to Fox News Channel’s Bret Baier from Haiti, Jean said, “This is apocalypse. The reality here at the airport has nothing to do with what’s going on on the ground right now.

“We spent the day picking up dead bodies, all day that’s what we did. There’s so much bodies in the streets that the morgues are filled up, the cemeteries are filled up. So we participated in picking up the bodies and finding a place that we could put the bodies.”

Health officials worry that the lack of sanitation will result in widespread epidemics. It is day 3 and victims are still trapped in the rubble of collapsed buildings.

But rescuers say after today the focus will shift from rescuing the trapped to preventing epidemics which poses a health risk to rescuers and Haitian survivors.

U.S. president Barack Obama has pledged $100 million in aid to Haiti. But Wyclef and actress Angelina Jolie (who donated $1 million of her own money to the cause) say that’s not enough.

Wyclef questions why Obama has not declared Haiti a state of emergency considering that he curiously declared a national emergency in October for an epidemic that we all knew did not exist.

“We are calling for a state of emergency,” said Wyclef. “Please President Obama, Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. We have to do something for this country.”

Bush waited 3 freaking days to send help during Katrina. Once again the USS Bataan was off the coast of Nola “before” the levees broke and we never got to go in and help, there were about 1300 ppl on board, we can hold up to 5000 if need be. The ship had beds, a hospital and a morgue. NOT ONE Survivor ever came aboard. The 4th day the USS IWO JIMA (admiral flagship) game down from Norfolk, VA. We begged our CO to let us do something anything for 5 days. We did send out helo’s to take photos. So don’t you dare say President Obama is not doing what needs to be done for Haiti. Guess which ship he sent out to Haiti first… that’s right The Mighty USS Bataan.

And we had 4 of the mighty MH-53E’s form HM-14 on board each helo competly stripped of all non mission essental (sp) can hold 56 ppl. This was my first duty station in the Navy. Those guys came back every night CRYING because they had to fly over ppl and not offer them aide HUC-2 was onboard also, they run a hovercraft type boat. They took some water in but were not allowed to help rescue either each craft can hold 12ppl we had 3 onboard. We had just refuled in TX so we were ready and willing to do anything to help the 2nd day they cut off our TV’s so we wouldn’t know how bad it was. I’m sorry fam for the long post…but

Anna, the tally for Yele foundation is just over $1 mil, I’m sure you can find out the tally or at the very least an estimate for most reputable organizations. Truth is regardless of who said it, its true $100 mil is not nearly enough for recovery or rebuilding efforts. Haiti was an impoverished nation that has needed foreign aid for decades; they lacked basic infrastructure prior to this earthquake, so that’s part of what makes the rescue effort damn near futile to begin with.
Regardless of peoples politics or whomever they believe should be responsible, I hope they can put that aside and help fellow human beings in whatever way they can. Its the right thing to do. No matter how broke you think you are, there’s something you can do to help others; if for nothing else, do it so there’s someone around to help you when the time comes.

I will just say that all things happen for a reason, just because YOU can’t make sense of them doesn’t mean that they don’t have a purpose. The world doesn’t evolve around you, you are just a very minuscule part in a bigger realm.

If you really want to know, sometime God will use drastic measures for people to take on change. People will ONLY change during disaster and hardship. I don’t know too many people that will change when sh!t goes good for them. Haiti needed help all along before this, there are a lot of disasters going on right now but then when you look at the world’s population as a whole, we have completely dumbed down, we have no longer compassion even though we want to pretend that we do, we have no longer respect and values for nature and life period.

Sometimes we have to be reminded, is bad? Yes it is but it could be much worse.

Who said that Haiti didn’t want the $100 Million???? Since everybody is so damn wise on here, won’t you come up with a plan that will allow all the aid to get over there. There is already relief coming however they are having a hard time getting into the country because sh!t f*cked up! they had an earthquake that damn near destroyed everything. Planes can’t land, Ships can’t dock. They had to get the marines to pull a platform on the sea, so that helicopters could land on, to transport items of the ships back and forth. They have to get equipment over there to clean up the debris. That sh!t take time to set up even if you respond immediately, ships have sail over there, crews have to be deployed, things have be delivered, loaded, etc..

So how fast can you respond??? Katrina is different, they were all US Citizens, we pay a lot of taxes for sh!t like this, the military is right around the corner, equipment is right around the corner. New Orleans wasn’t isolated somewhere in the Atlantic. The last time I checked Texas, Mississippi, etc are no more than a few hours away.

I’ve made it My number one business to study all major religious books, and the people who “believe” in them. This has been My life-long study. I came to earth to study this place and that is what I do. Just like the movie Avatar declares, there are more places of life out in the universes and some much more intelligent than others. Earthlings are not very smart at all. Please stop fooling yourselves and do some serious studying about Life.

I think another big thing is that majority of people on this site, live off gossip and you take it as fact! You need to start digging around and get your facts from SEVERAL sources, and not was is being said on Twitter, Myspace or facebook.

Lets just see, we are all have very lucky to live in the US a country where you have rights and freedom. Not one of you have to endure WAR, Genocide, Poverty and Oppression. (not just you can’t by $150 J’s and you have to get the knock offs), You can do as you please and say as you please.

What if you lived in Iraq, Afganisthan, N. Korea, China, Russia, or any other country. Where it is legal to stone women to death for putting on make up, where if you say one word about you president – your ass goes in a concentration camp or prison, where food is hard to come by, where you need to have a license to have kids and so on. We keep saying that as black people we are under privileged, that may have been so decades ago but nowadays we make money, we have power, it is just how we choose to use it.

The economy collapse was cause solely by us, by living way above our means because we act like we the sh!t ain’t no one better than us. But the reality of it that China has more money where if they repo shit that the whole east coast may have to learn chinese, Japan, and Germany are technologically way more advanced than us. Where they have treatments not available to us thats why a lot of them go overseas.

We all use credit as a part of life, in China owing debt is dishonor but we don’t give a crap. We go out splurge on bullsh!t and value people by what they got. We worship people that really don’t do anything to better us in anyway but we put them on a pedstal.

So to put a long story short, in order to REALLy make an educated opinion you have to venture oustide of 285 and Velvet Room. Not just take your info off CNN, NBC or any news channel, you may want to dig deeper and really research to make some sense and weed out what is fact and what is not. I guess that is why we keep falling for the okey doke but then say it wasn’t our fault but the other man

How can you be so sure that there is no God??? FYI I haven’t been to church in at least 10 years and I don’t consider myself I religious person, I don’t listen to gospel nor do I read the bible. Life guided me. Certain things happen where there is no explanation and no science that can be applied to it.

a relationship with god is something that is with you and him. I don’t like many of the preachers and I believe that majority of people use Church to mask their own flaws and imperfections. But you were born with eyes, feelings and a mind. If you open your mind to just all kinds of things that simply pertain to life, you can put 2 and 2 together. You don’t need a preacher or a church to understand how life operates and every action has a reaction.

You may want to also study martial arts where the purpose of martial arts are that you DO NOT have to fight and pretty much everything is laid out for you.

I can give a scenerio as you said something about Haiti if there was a god that wouldn’t have happened. First of all, God doesn’t do ANYTHING for you, he only presents you with opportunity, it is solely up to you what you do with it. Will go right or left, if your heart and mind is in the right place you will make the right decision, if you don’t it has consequences. Consequences are not always repaid that way you dish them out. If you steal from someone doesn’t necessarily mean that someone will steal from you. You could get a car accident, etc.

Haiti to could have many meanings such as for us to wake up as people to start learning not be so self centered and to get some compassion, it could mean that we need to take heed to whats happening with our world, or whatever however there is a lesson coming from this one way or another. One thing is for sure that this has the attention of the entire world.
