MzWilliams, what city are you in? Check with a local head startprogram. They are usually income based, but if you’re private pay, they will take you USUALLY at the standard rate. My husband and I make too much as far as income, but they let us in because they had openings

I have an appt. With headstart wednesday I’m praying for the best. My cousin told me to quit my job and sign up for food stamps.Then I would be able to get daycare. I cuss her out something good.

@ MzWilliams: I had the same problem when I was younger. I went to the DFAS place to try and get some free or reduced childcare. I had a friend that wasnt working and she was sending two kids to daycare free of charge so I knew I was in the right place. Don’t you know these people told me that there was a two year waiting list!!! I tried to explain to them that I had a new job that I would be starting in two weeks. They responded by telling me that my best bet would be to quit this job, apply for welfare, and when I got approved for welfare, then I would be moved up on the childcare waiting list and could get childcare damn near immediately. Now I try not to act ignorant in public but I litterally cussed out everybody working up in that place because that is pure bullsh*t. But yes ma’am, u gotta get u some welfare if u want that free childcare.

Yeah that is crazy, I was in the coffee shop yesterday and I bumped into some ladies I work out w/ and I had my son w/ me he is 2. He was talking to them and they asked me was he in school and I nodded NO! These heffa’s looked at me like I has 2 heads. I am new to the area so maybe they knew about something I did not know about. Because I though until they are in head start the prices are ridiculous..

I know in NY they had a place called the childcare council and when I first started out I payed 2 dollars a week. When I began to get better jobs it slowly went up and finally I started paying 160.00 a week. That was over 12 years ago w/ my oldest son.
Now It is so much more and it is crazy, I feel you but where there is a will there is a way. I have no idea what I am going to do cause lord knows I want to work but gosh darn it daycare is gonna kick my tail. So right know I am stuck between a rock and a hard place…

I understand.I like go getters. When I was in college I tried to get food stamps and they told me $20 something dollars. I told them no thank you. Section 8 in Alabama has people coming up here. Most women I know that’s on it have nice houses that they eventually tear up.

Gurlllll, don’t get me started on that sh*t. I swear I just called to see about my son attending preschool for free (a New Jersey program), since he’s 3 years old. Them suckas told me, that I had to make less than $14570 A YEAR!!!!!!!!!!
I asked that woman, and who in the poor man’s hell can survive making that a year, with a kid????
And I admit, I fibbed a little, because I told them we had a family size of 2
and with a family of 2, you cannot make more than $14570 a year!!!!!

When I was getting WIC (the only thing I REALLY wanted help on was that dayummm Similac!!!) The wonderful Latina young ladies at the WIC office told me that they would say I had a family of four so I can get the WIC. I was so grateful to them for putting me on!!!
Is it just me or do (our people) give you a harder time like its their money? Everytime I went for assistance for something (childcare or medical card) and I had to deal with a black person…they gave me attitude, a hard time, turned their nose up at me, tried to make me go through all these hoops.

Exactly. I learned to lie when necessary. In 2008, both me and my husband were laid off, and got no help what-so-ever!!!!! I applied and said my husband left me, and my son, and I got declined due to the gross income in my weekly check at the time. They said the gross income on my weekly check was over their monthly income limit.

@ Tyzgurl & Ms. Williams this is exactly what me & one of my co-workers were talking about last week. she was trying to get assistance with childcare & can’t because she got a raise at work. it seems like when you try to move up to do better for yourself you can forget about getting any type of help or assistance whatsoever. meanwhile the one’s that are just sitting on thier @sses at home are collecting like a fat cat. the system is backwards. how can you penalize the people who try to better themselves but reward the one’s who do nothing. that’s insane.
