I watched Oprah yesterday and I was really shocked by her family. They are saying that she was alright all these years and had a normal brother/sister relationship. What do you do when the molester is still around you and everyone knows but doesn’t act like it? I personally know what it is to have the monster still around because of what happened in my Mom’s past. You never know how the victim feels.

I felt sorry for the parents they don’t get the sideye from me I think they did the best they could for their generation. I Monique and her parents can reconcile in the future. I also felt bad for her brother and the molestation he suffered as well. Just a heartbreaking story. God Bless them all.

First allow me to say that anyone here, or anyone that knows of someone or suspects that someone may be a victim of moledation, my heart goes out to you and my prayers are lifted for you.

Gypse, I feel you..my mother as well, was a victim of her father. She was 1 of 2 out of 5 daughters victimized by my grandfather…unlike you however, my grandfather was never painted as a monster to me…as a matter of fact 70% of my childhood was spent in the home of my grandparents. My mother unfortunantly went through the process of telling and not being believed. This obvisouly caused a tremendous strain in my family as a whole, some effected moreso than others. As an adult I learned through the family grapevine, that it was not that my GM didn’t believe my mom…it was the time era and the circumstances…my GM, under educated, living in the south, with 10 children, who were practicially stairstepped,and during the time she didn’t work outside of the home, felt she had no choice but to stay…when it happened to the younger child (my mom was the oldest BTW)…is when she had the courage to leave…UNFORTUANTE? YES… but as a result of that family history…I, like DAISEY…as I listened to moniques mother and father could understand their turmoil, their confusion…this was not a stranger who victimized their daughter…but another child, who says that he too was someone’s victim…HOW DO YOU CHOOSE? It is not as black and white as if the creepy neighbor had done it…..this is harder. I could also understand the mother when she said…”I asked MONIQUE…if she wanted to speak to someone and she said no mama I just wanted you to know”…at 15 years of age…monique was old enough to speak up and say yes I want to speak to someone other than you.

Monique participated in the efforts to return to normal….that is her family’s confusion…I understand, specifically in a black family…we don’t run out and get professional help with things of this nature…we depend on GOD and the COHESSIVENESS of our family to heal accordingly….again I say that Monique participated in that process….of appearing to be OK. Her mother put it best, when she said..I am not saying she shouldn’t have gone public, but we all are in different places now, so therefore before going public, why didn’t she reach out to her parents and give them the opportunity to talk about it…though my heart goes out to Monique…..I wish that she would have given her parents, at least! a chance to prepare for the public.

I have and I have had an enough of an experience to know that I could never committ to a gay lifestyle, because I would not want it to encompass my life as a whole….I am attracted to women, but I am not so drawn into the idea of sleeping with a woman that I introduce it into my relationships, not sure that I ever would, even though the men I date and have dated are fully aware of my experience in that area. I openly admire women, but not in a disrespectful, vulgar or lewd manner. I have girlfriends that are Gay and some that are Bi: But I am def considered the HETERO in the bunch

Outside the box: I have never been in a relationship were that has been pushed on me…I have had playful “what-if” conversation with the men in my life…BUT the men I date don’t tend to push the subject. IT may come up breifly if I admire a woman or comment on a woman’s sexiness. My relationship with a man is def for myself……so therefore it is def premeditated selfishness. But they don’t ask and I don’t offer. It is all good.
