FanMAIL: Shawn Marion was Misrepresented and Misunderstood

Shawn Marion’s publicist reached out to Sandrarose.com yesterday to enlighten us about NBA star Shawn Marion’s many generous and charitable contributions.

Danika Berry of the DBAgency PR firm responded quickly yesterday to my blog post about Dallas exotic dancer Zeralyn‘s assertion that Mr. Marion was a stingy tipper.

Ms. Berry wanted us to know that — while Mr. Marion may not always feel charitable towards local strippers who work hard for the money — he does love the kids.

She writes:

Shawn created and established The Shawn Marion Foundation in 2007 in order to help single parent families. Last month Shawn along with his mom and three sisters were featured in the Mother¹s Day issue of Jet Magazine for pampering single moms for their hard work.

She continues:
“I read the blog that was posted by one of your readers regarding Shawn Marion. It¹s obvious that this young lady has misrepresented Mr. Marion.”

Hello Sandra,

I hope you are well.

This past Christmas day, Shawn spent thousands of dollars going door to door locally in Dallas delivering Christmas gifts to single parent moms and their children. I am truly appalled that this young lady would have the nerve to create and write a negative blog about someone that she doesn’t know personally. Shawn’s mission in life is to help these mother’s get a better life, to get real jobs and help their children. As a product of a single parent home, (his mom having him and his twin sister at the tender age of 14), he totally understands the struggle and is trying to do something about it.

Shawn has a way of turning the negative into a positive and it’s disturbing that this young lady would even fathom the thought or have the audacity to write something negative about someone who spends thousands helping others to have a better life. This summer we are having two fundraisers, one in Vegas at Palms Casino Hotel & Resort and Choctaw Casino and Resort in Durant, OK to raise funds in order to provide scholarships for single parents at UNLV and in the Dallas area.

If this young lady is a single parent and would like to seek other employment besides being a dancer at the strip club, The Shawn Marion Foundation would love to help her find employment if she feels that she isn’t being compensated properly. Also, if she needs help for back to school or Christmas, please let us know. We are here to provide and offer our services, not tear down and hurt.

GRANT & SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES
The Shawn Marion Foundation is currently in the process of creating scholarship and grant guidelines and is not yet accepting applications.

We will distribute our first scholarships to applicants attending University of Nevada Las Vegas and our first grants in the Chicago area. Our long-term plans are to make these national programs.

Yeah, I agree. But Shawn Marion has made boatlaods more money than Slimm Thug. Marion has made about $100 mil over his career. I think Slimm is still trying to crack six figures. Prolly can’t afford a good publicist.
