This morning we awoke to the news that the planned Koran barbecue by a deranged Florida pastor might still be on as scheduled for tomorrow.
A lunatic and 50 of his followers threaten to light a match to an Islamic religious relic and the world explodes with heated passion and outrage.
What’s going on here?
Don’t the Muslim extremists (which includes women and children) burn our American flag every chance they get? Don’t they desecrate our churches and murder our missionaries at the drop of a dime? Do they need a reason to commit atrocities against the US in the name of their religion?
Why would the US president lower the dignity of the highest office in the land by personally appealing to an egotistical crackpot on national TV?
Obama claimed that the lives of the American troops in Afghanistan would be endangered if Pastor Terry Jones burned a Koran.
Since when does the Muslim world need a reason to kill our troops?
As noted professor PZ Myers said so eloquently, “I am simply astounded at the catalog of high-ranking personages who are contributing to this new frenzy of foolishness.”
“Mr. Obama is wrong,” writes Jeffrey T. Kuhner of The Washington Times. “There was nothing un-American about Mr. Jones’ plans. Burning sacred symbols – whether it is the flag, the Constitution or the Koran – is as American as mom and apple pie.”
Pastor Jones was thrust to the forefront of our national consciousness by a ratings-driven media bolstered by a poll that shows 25% of Americans believe Barack Obama is a Muslim.
Expect to see more Obama/Muslim baiting from the media in the near future.
MORE after the break
PZ Myers said it better than I can: to Obama and the national media: you need to get a grip!
President Obama, you’re a damned fool.
What are you going to do, send in the national guard to prevent Terry Jones’ congregation from destroying their own private property? Will there be new legislation to list items that may not be treated disrespectfully? Shall we surrender a few more liberties because religious zealots are threatening us? Obama can do nothing and should do nothing; he accomplishes nothing by complaining about it, other than being part of the mob confirming the madness of the defenders of faith.
And to suggest that some guy burning a book in a remote land will incite more anti-American sentiment is absurd. We’ve got drones buzzing over Iraq and Afghanistan killing people with a push of a button; we’ve got an armed force occupying those countries; we have bombed their infrastructure into rubble. We’ve killed hundreds of thousands of Muslims. And now we’re to believe that their love of the West will be suddenly devastated by a video of paper burning on youtube? Get a grip, man.
