The article was published in Atlanta magazine in 2009. It chronicles the sad story of a brilliant con artist named Darren Lumar who as a little boy aspired to live in one of those upscale mansions on Tuxedo Road in the wealthy Buckhead enclave of Atlanta.
Lumar eventually did make it to Tuxedo Road, where he lived in a fabulous $1.5 million pristine white mansion with his wife and two beautiful children. But the story doesn’t end there.
The story of how he acquired that home, and how he eventually lost all his riches, his family, his mansion — and his life — will astound you.
Lumar was married to Dr. Yamma Brown, a pharmacist and the daughter of the late, leendary James Brown.
The well-written article goes into great detail about the abuse, the fights, the stabbing, and everything she endured at the hands of a raging narcissist.
Today, Yamma has found the strength and the insight to see that her father’s many absences from home is what caused her emotionally dependency on men like Lumar.
In this video, she gossips about Chilli, Jada Pinkett and Sheree Whitfield (‘Real Housewives of Atlanta‘). But the real story is the struggles she went through to arrive at the woman she is today.

I read the article sometime last year. I remember thinking to myself wow…that’s a lot to deal with. I don’t know if I could’ve stayed and dealt with that especially with children in the picture.
This is a man’s world, this is a man’s world
But it wouldn’t be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl

There is no way on God’s green earth that I have a rich daddy and student loan debt. **** the lesson in independence. It is overrated. Why struggle if you don’t have to? Blank stare.

I read this article… and re-read a couple of parts… I have to say his chacteristics remind me of so many part time celebs of today like NeNe, Amber Rose, Lots of the one hit wonders etc.. being a con artist takes a lot of work!
Great Post Sandra…
What Darren Lumar learned is this: With enough persistence, intelligence, and charisma, with enough shortcuts, anything is possible. You can live in a mansion without actually being rich, hire landscapers without actually paying them, drive a Mercedes that is registered to someone else, sleep with any number of women even though you have already married

I know a lot of wanna be starts and fading temp stars who shuld read this and aviod the death trap of keeping of facades…

Its nice to see that James’s daughter has done well for herself despite his absence and her resulting struggles. God bless her.
I hate people who wait for someone to die and then say chit about him…She could have said her two cents when her father was still alive about him not being there….

I was thinking the same exact thing as I read the story. Wow. That is deep. Sandstone is my fav. sub division. I used to teach around the corner and after work would drive thru it and admire all of the lovely homes. One of my students lived there. A nice young couple but they were loaded. They were mine and my husband’s age at the time (30) and we were thinking maybe teaching is the wrong profession! Anyway, I am glad Yamma is free of all that foolery. But why didn’t James Brown split the money between his children?
She’s pretty, and I can see what she is saying. Our dads have a lot to do with how we deal with men, I know mine did. Because I find myself dating guys with similar ways to his.
@Lamonts Sister
you stupid I swear
Sandra, you just can’t get Rihanna outta your head. You ain’t slick, I know why you posted this story.

That entire article in the Atlanta Magazine is so powerful. Wow…you really see everything that people go through just to stunt and pretend that they are Elite. It is sooo not worth it. The story is just sad. This man’s mother lost 2 of her 3 sons…and he just lost his life cause he had his crooked ways….I agree with everyone else who said it should be a lifetime movie…it should be. Sandra, you betta right a script and send it some producers! LOL
Sound Good @ CHA CHA?
Oh i got the newsletter…just 2hrs late due to Verizon not wanting to alert me on time….
Wow, she sounds like Halle Berry.
I am tired of these women crying about how their relationships have been ruined by their upbringing.
Let’s face it–no one had the ‘perfect’ parents so we all have scars from our childhood and it is up to us to identify those emotional scars and find a way to heal them because if we don’t we’re the only ones who will continue to suffer.
Oh weee! That article was incredible. That was like reading a movie a script, Yamma’s gotta make this into movie. She just has to.
The story was interesting for so many reasons. The man was a sicko of course so things were not going to end well for him regardless. But you wonder what kind of woman is Dr. Brown for staying with a con artist and thief even after he was convicted of raping multiple women. Why would anyone do business with a man who sucks his thumb in business meetings? Why didn’t they use some of the money they conned for some of their bills? But most of all, this man had the skills to do whatever he wanted and something within him wouldn’t allow him to operate within the confines of the law.
She won’t write a book because that takes too much work and would take time away from her shopping, but I’d love to see her on Real Housewives of Atlanta. She makes Sheree the repo queen look damn near credit worthy. This is how I have always viewed Atlanta and why I can’t really stomach it. I can smell the debt in the air if I come within 50 miles of it. I can scarcely breath when I’m within the city limits.
@ Bird ^^^
I agree, well on point about this phuckery. I’m curious as to who would do business with a thumb-sucker too. Also, Yamma seems like something in her wash ain’t too clean either. While reading that article, I got the impression she may have had a little vice with booz and pills, because his phuckery was just all out ridiculous. Or she may have just been the type of woman who just cares about the status of marriage. I’m sure she had girlfriends who warned or questioned this guys actions.
The posted video, Yamma does not strike me as a PharmD. Also, I drifted listening to her yappin’, but Is it me, why does the guy in the background look like he’s packaging crack or street pills?
