Actress/singer Raven-Symone, 25, posed with Steve Harvey, a guest, and gospel singer Yolanda Adams after speaking with high school students during "Disney's Dreamers Academy" sponsored by Essence Magazine at Disney's Epcot Center in Lake Buena Vista, Florida yesterday.

Raven, whose personal net worth is close to a billion dollars, told the kids that she cut her hair because her hairline was ate up. Hopefully, she will lead the charge against weave and hair extensions that has robbed our black women of their beauty and elegance.

"Disney's Dreamers Academy" is a career enrichment event at Walt Disney World that features four days of activities geared toward high school students. Local celebrity blogger Tami of Talking With Tami, took her son to the event. Tami provided this video of Raven discussing her new ABC TV show coming out called, "The Great State of Georgia". So watch your local listings for that!

Um Raven WTF is goin on with that outfit????
I do like the new do

  • Supa_sexy

I luv how she kept it real and said the reason why she cut her hair. She is still beautiful with or without the hair.

  • Eb

Did she cut her hair or did she just take out her weave?

  • Danielle

    I like her hair...

  • Dawn

I like it too Brown, I just cut mine off too because it was permed in the front and back but natural in the middle. It wasn't cost effective to keep getting it braided so I went and had it cropped low.. It was shoulder legmth, it's only hair it will grow back. I'm glad I don't have that thing where I have to have long hair to define who I am. :)

  • EssenceofU

I love Raven, she's such a positive role model for young ladies, BUT, looks like she lost her style with the weightloss! Cute hair, but that outfit is hideous. Has Yolanda EVER worn her own hair? Her edges have got to be gone!

Remember I permed mine last December and b/c it was all virgin hair it was half perm half pressed. I missed my natrual hair so BAD. I'm glad I cut it and I look forward to another growing season... I hated that I even gave in and permed it last year. I miss my hair but it'll be back!

i'm more appalled at that horrible outfit than the horrible hairstyle
she looks older than me and im 30....

  • Iblondon

her hair is nice, but I wish people would stop blaming weaves/extensions for their messed up hair. I wear extensions all the time and still have a full head of long relaxed hair underneath. Just because the female gets her hair braided to tight, don't moisturize her hair under the weave, put hair glue in the hair, keeps the weave in for a long period of time and just in general don't properly take care of her natural hair underneath the weave, does NOT make it the weave's fault.

Natural Hair (to me) is growing my hair the way God intended, from my scalp and without the assistance of relaxers or other harmful products. If someone wants to use a relaxer, then fine, you do you and I'll do me.

    ------------------------------

I understand what you are saying because there are some women that "preach" that type of message and they tend to take it overboard.

Personally, my problem is with the folks who do not like my hair because I chose to wear it in it's true form (as if I'm wrong for doing that). That is MY problem with the whole natural vs. relaxed argument.

Gotcha bnatural, I surely don't have a problem with women who wear their hair naturally. I think it's gorgeous but I would never question a woman wearing natural hair just like I wouldn't question a woman who relaxes her's.

  • iscream

I love Raven I think she is a positive role model for our youth.

I'm surprised she took out her weaave because she was serious about her weaves in the movie good hair.

I can't really maintain it with relaxer, it's a long process for me lol...it just breaks. And I agree it's not about the weaves n extensions..I know girls with natural hair who get bad extensions n of-course it's gonna fluck up their hairline. Just know how to take care of your hair.

    ------------------

IMO...color doesn't have anything to do with whether you are natural or not. Some people say you aren't "natural" if you color you hair. Whatever...I don't believe that. Ultimately, to each his own really...I'm thinking about using henna to color my coils but I'm not sure of what kind to use yet...

  • StillASassyOne

I think that any hair, if you don't take care of it, will get damaged whether relaxed, natural, weaved-up, etc. I had close to waistlength hair when I had a relaxer and I've been natural since July 08.

I'm actually prepping to get my very first ever weave in April (I'm excited!! Can ya tell?! :yahoo:) But I think it is just in how you take care of it. I know some chicks with butt-length natural hair that have worn weaves for years to protect it, and some whose hair is not doing so well.

Depends ont he person and the practices. I do hate the nazis who come out and bash folks who don't have natural hair, or who weave it up or press it and whatnot. Everybody should do their own thing- whatever makes them happy. Just because your hair is natural doesn't mean it's more healthy than the next chick who has a relaxer or a weave or a lacefront. :eyeroll:

  • Iblondon

@Queen I only get relaxers twice a year. I love stretching too. I don't have a problem with any one's choice. But I can only hope that some are into the health of their bodies like they are into their hair. You can't be walking around thinking you are "special" cause your hair is natural and then turn around eating pork rinds, whoopers and guzzling down a ton of soft drinks.

  • http://chokolatemilk.blogspot.com Choco aka Hippie

    @Sass
Why get a weave if your hair was long with a perm - y not just relax your hair again?

  • StillASassyOne

    @Choco

No- I'll probably never perm my hait again. :nono: I love my natural hair! I'm getting a weave as a protective style. I manipulate my hair ( alot) and it's not helping. My weave hair is going to be the exact same texture as my natural hair so I won't have to keep flat-ironing it and stuff if it's a special occasion. I work out 5-6 days a week so keeping a "style" in my hair is just not possible.

Right now- I only flat-iron my hair 10-12 times a year, and I'd like to take it down even further to 3-4x a year. So the weave will help me do that. If I decide one day I want straight hair or something...I can flat-iron the hell out of that remy and not worry about damaging my own! :-D

But I don't want anymore relaxers. I'm mad I actually didn't go natural sooner...

The new 'do certainly ages Raven, but for some reason, the "back to natural" movement must be working on me because I'm finding it more and more "acceptable" whereas before I'd be the first to want to rub through somethin long and silky.

My co-worker just cut her hair all the way down like a dude and ironically, she looks 10X's BETTER!

    Go figure.

    Go Raven.

  • http://pearlswindow.com Carrington

I DO agree that these wigs are out of control and a complete turn-off.

The chick on American Idol has me befuddled each week, wondering if she's going to spin to the right and her wig will stay where she WAS standing and break out into it's own rendition of, "And I Am Telling You"?

Why don't susta's look in the mirror and see that that $hit looks a f*ckin' fool? Bad wigs AGE sista's whether they realize it or not.

Nothing worse than a fine sister in a cheap wig... unless it's burgundy and she's smoking a cigarette in it.

I like Raven's hair. The outfit is rather Golden Girlsish though. To me the worst part of perms is the harmful chemicals but it's up to the individual. It's healthier to wear a weave or wig if a person doesn't want to wear their natural hair or flat iron it.

My hair looks just like Raven's hair right now. My hair was healthy relaxed and rested comfortably on my bra strap. However, I developed an allergy to the chemiclas and endured serious pain.
