Earlier this week I told you about Corrissa Friends, the 21-year-old nursing student and loving mom who was gunned down in her Riverdale apartment by her estranged husband, Wisdom Jeffery. Read that post here.
Celebrity photographer Prince Williams captured these photos of the smiling couple partying with their close friend, singer Keyshia Cole (and singer Monica), at the Velvet Room in January 2009.
No one knew that under her happy exterior, Corrissa was harboring a dark secret: she was the victim of domestic abuse.
Jeffery was a fixture on the Atlanta music industry scene and the couple always came out to support Keyshia. But behind closed doors Jeffery subjected Corrissa to physical and mental abuse and unwanted sexual advances.
When his jealous rages got to be too much for her, Corrissa packed up her newborn daughter and moved out. But Jeffery always found out where she was and he pursued her relentlessly.
Police say Corrissa feared for her life when she dialed 911 on August 10, 2010 to report a domestic dispute. But when police arrived at Corrissa’s Chateau Forest apartment in Riverdale they found no evidence of violence. Since his name was not on the lease Jeffery was asked to leave, which he did.
But on the morning of August 11, 2010, Jeffery returned to the apartment with a shotgun and shot Corrissa 3 times — twice in the abdomen and once in the back. Corrissa was able to dial 911 before she collapsed and died.
According to the Crime Stoppers Organization, Jeffery is still at large after eluding capture for 8 months.
FOX TV’s longest-running program, America’s Most Wanted, will feature the fugitive in a segment set to air this upcoming weekend.
Wisdom Jeffery is 5 ft 11in and 185 lbs. He is considered armed and dangerous.

I can remember as a kid always thinking that the lighter skinned girl in the group was the prettiest, and then I really good look at Tiny from Xscape and that all changed.
Also, my cousin (I love her so much) was very fair skinned. And a lot of girls picked on her. I look back now and realize that it was jealousy, but back then she didn’t know that. And that caused her to be insecure. It can be jus as hard for the lighter skinned girl who’s in a classroom where all the girls are darker skinned. She’s labeled jus because she’s light skinned.

She was a f’ing bus driver for the city. Although he did nothing wrong to me, there were still too many small reg flags. Like he likes to cook, and back then I was on this health trip where I rarely drink soda and tried to limit my fried foods to once a week. So when I would come over, he would always asked if I wanted some pop, i’m like no thank you, I try not to drink too much pop, espcically in the summer, and why would he place a big glass of pop in front of me everytime, and always fix something fried to eat. There were too many instances where I would tell him something and it was like either he just wasn’t listening to me or didn’t care. He was also about 10 years older so I knew that most of them don’t take younger women seriously.

Also, my cousin (I love her so much) was very fair skinned. And a lot of girls picked on her. I look back now and realize that it was jealousy, but back then she didn’t know that. And that caused her to be insecure. It can be jus as hard for the lighter skinned girl who’s in a classroom where all the girls are darker skinned. She’s labeled jus because she’s light skinned.

I care but as a former victim like the victim in this post I made a conscious decision to stay in my situation. Although it is tragic anytime a life is lost it is more tragic when a lost is lost due to poor choices. granted no one ask to be abused but if you continue to stay then you aeemingly are comfortable with the outcome. I stayed because I chose to and when it got to the point where I was sick and tired of being sick and tired then I left.
The only victims are those who are innocent such as random abuse victims and children. Adults who tolerate and make excuses for abuse are making conscious decisions.
I disagree with the need to include the “celebs” based on the fact that it overshadows the victim. All people see is Keyshia Cole or Monica and the fact that they aren’t exactly celebs you would think instant positive thoughts about. My initial thouhgt was the victim ran with 2 women who also chose bad men and defended those men beyond reapproach when the public questioned their character. Ex. Keyshia Cole chased Jezzy all over town from honey hole to honey hole as did Monica with Rocky da don.
