The new Columbia Pictures film ‘Jumping the Broom’ produced by Tracey Edmonds and Bishop T.D. Jakes is a romantic comedy that explores today’s difficulty in abstaining from sex until marriage.
Bishop Jakes fuses religion and comedy to challenge the film’s audiences to explore the option of abstinence before marriage.
The film asks the question how easy is it to abstain from sex until you jump the broom? And which guy would make you want to Jump The Broom?
Laz Alonso and Paula Patton play Jason Taylor and Sabrina Watson, a young couple who decide to spend the rest of their lives together in Holy matrimony. But when their two families from opposite ends of the tracks converge on Martha’s Vineyard for their dream weekend wedding, problems crop up and threaten to derail the happy event.
After meeting with Bishop Jakes for a counseling session, Taylor makes the decision to abstain from sex until his marriage to Watson.
In addition to abstaining from sex, Watson has to deal with her parents (played by Angela Bassett and Brian Stokes Mitchell) who have problems in their own marriage and appear on the brink of divorce.
And Taylor faces pressure from his friends who scoff at the idea of abstaining from sex until marriage.
‘Jumping The Broom’ also stars Mike Epps, Loretta Devine, Meagan Good, Tasha Smith, DeRay Davis, Julie Bowen, Romeo Miller, Gary Dourdan, Pooch Hall, and Valarie Pettiford.
‘Jumping The Broom’ opens everywhere on May 6, 2011.
