Last night belonged to singer Beyoncé at the 2011 Billboard Music Awards at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas — judging by the euphoric, greatly exaggerated tweets of Beyoncé’s Stans.
Basically, all Beyoncé did was stand in front of a huge white screen and interact with dazzling graphic effects in a movie that was projected onto the giant screen behind her. My astute followers on Twitter noted correctly that Beyoncé stole the graphics part of her performance from Janet Jackson’s “Feedback” music video.
After the movie ended, Beyoncé danced with 100 or so underpaid dancers as fireworks rained down on the stage. Then she shook her weave wildly to and fro, before tipping into the audience with an exaggerated cat walk that the gays on the ballroom scene do so much better than her.
I couldn’t believe this was the same performance that Bey’s Stans on Twitter were raving about! And apparently I wasn’t the only one who failed to see what all the excitement was about:
After her performance, Beyoncé accepted her Billboard Millenium award from her mom, Tina Knowles, and her nephew Juelz Smith. Bey graciously thanked Destiny’s Child members Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. Then Bey added a nice touch by thanking long forgotten DC members Latavia Roberson and Letoya Luckett. But she curiously left out Farrah Franklin,
her wig maker and the manufacturer of her favorite bleaching cream.
Of course everyone made note of the fact that Beyoncé thanked Jay Z — like what wife wouldn’t thank her husband?
If it wasn’t for the special effects, the fireworks and the 100 underpaid dancers, Beyoncé’s performance would have generated more yawns than Nicki Minaj’s did.

It’s a pity that Run the World (Girls) is such a horrible song. You can’t even try to enjoy her performance because she keeps barking “Run this mutha” at you. So much for keeping it classy.
I thought her performance was great. When compared to all the other artist that performed she put on a show while they performed. I don’t know what Janet video you are talking about but I do remember MJB I’m going down video was similar to this screen show with all the Bey’s on screen.
Nothing done nowadays is original. People still incorporate Michael Jackson Thriller moves into their routines… Why do people always try and pull Bey’s card about it. Everyone including movie script writers borrow from something.
just admit it… Bey did the darn thing. SHE’S BACK…

I’m still waiting for him to thank her. this is her 2nd time
Am I the only who feels embarrassed whenever I hear the lyrics to this horrible song? She’s just not gonna get any better when it comes to material. The girl is just a basic country bumpkin, that’s how Houston Texas made her. She’s not breaded to be intelligent or make music that doesn’t follow nursery rhyme formulas. She’s a freaking robot! She’s only programmed to jump across the stage, and give the same monotone in articulate speeches (which someone should be fired for not scripting a thank you to her Stans last nite) No personality what so ever, not in her music or outside of it. LOL Since none of her stans demand more of her musically, she’ll continue to dish out garbage. A former stand myself (retired during the BDAY era) need so much more. Luckily I have the likes of Alicia, Adele, Keri, Jazmine, and Rihanna that deliver where the Queen B fails every time.
“inarticulate” (really meant that to be one word) LOL
its like Matthew was begging to be her manager again.
Solange looks a hot mess
I was so-so on that performance….
I felt like they should have presented her with that award FIRST and then she should have taken the stage and performed. It was awkward listening to her mom and seeing Beyonce walk up to the stage in the background
I’m sorry but that Michelle Obama piece irked me a little. I’m sure she can find plenty of other women that are better role models for young girls than Beyonce (don’t shoot me)!!!!
I liked the performance. I’m not crazy for the song..but her performance was good!
her performance was great!!!!! GO BEY!!!!!!!!
I thought the performance was great, I still hate the song though. At least she can actually SING and DANCE!!

YES
@Atypical: thanks for the correction. Not southern ppl, just Beyonce. I’s born n raised in the south and meant no disrepect to my ppl. Was just singling out Bey since she makes it a habbit of reminding us that the way she is, is how they made her. I was referencing her song but whateve. You made ur point I guess.
The woman can perform weather you like her or not. I’m not a fan I have only have the first 2 Destiny Child cds. I was done after that. But I can say she is an entertainer.
Why is it always the people who claim they can’t stand Bey leaving the longest msgs? Going on and on about the same thing we’ve heard a million times.
We get it. You don’t like her.
Anywho, I loved the performance and I’m one of the few here who actually like song.
Go Bey! Get got an award she deserved.
Get= She
Im just glad she forgot to say thanks to her fans! And as soon as it came on I said Michael Jackson did this already

her husband has got to be re-elected…so yeah….she gotta sure up her puppets
Ummm I guess Im alone, but i thought that was best performance of the night.
LIKE THE PERFORMANCE! HATE THAT DAMN SONG!
Nobody can come for Bey right now. She is an exceptional show woman just like Janet Jackson was.
But its a damn shame that she is such a bootleg songwriter. Dangerously In Love days are over! Bey will continue cowriting all her songs so she can get writers credit and take them coins too.
The stans are going to get tired of the same ol shite, thats exactly what happened to Janet.
Lol, I am far from a Bey stan, but I actually liked the performance…the only part that was weird was when she was walking up behind her mom while she was talking…that whole interaction looked staged and overly-presumptuous…
She still had the best performance of the night! Cee-lo performance was nice also. Not only her stan was praising her performance others in the industry as well.

I usually love the work that Beyonce does but I am not feeling this song at all, I somewhat ejoy the video but I HATED the performance last night. I mean I have to agree with Sandra on this one she stood in front of the screen. This just didnt cut it.
Not really feeling the song but love to see her perform, and the same goes for Ciara. Ciara is definitely not a good singer at all but her performance is good.

Yeah because @Trucie you pretty much made the same comments in the prior post about her…

BTW, I didn’t like Rhianna’s performance..and Britney didn’t move me either..damn it’s like she can’t dance anymore…
I love the track …its sick. Reminds me of my percualtor days. I am not a fan but I will give her props, she can perform.
During the entire performance I couldn’t help but wish it was Janet doing Feedback.
I’m not a Beyonce fan/stan at all but I thought the performance was great. Lots of energy, thanks to 10K dancers on stage.
And I don’t know why some of yall are butt hurt that people are giving their opinion on Beyonce. You all say some of the most outrageous things about other artist too.
her performance had me
there, I said it.
FINALLY CAN ALL THE NAY SAYERS STFU! JUST SAY YOU’RE NOT A FAN, BOTTOM LINE YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE
BUT YOU CAN’T DISCREDIT HER ACCOMPLISHMENTS, THE INDUSTRY HAS SPOKEN (THOSE WHO ACTUALLY PERSONALLY KNOW THE BUSINESSS VERSUS THOSE WHO HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WHATSOEVER & JUST AN OPINION)
VINDICATION/VALIDATION, IT IS WHAT IT IS JUST SAY YOU DON’T LIKE HER BASICALLY THAT’S ALL IT COMES DOWN TO
THEY CREATED THE AWARD JUST FOR HER, WHAT AN HONOR-GET IT GIRL
SUCCESS IS THE MOST REWARDING REVENGE-GET IT BEY!!!!!
no one ever said she didn’t have stage presence. that song is booty, and that’s just fact. i get how only certain artist can breathe life into a song, but beyonce should be so beyond gimmicks and for the moment products. there are so many other women inspired or empowering songs, this one will not withstand the test of time.
but hey, yall like it, she loves it. i’m still stuck on independent women.
Her dancing was on point, and the effects were cool, but the song is still ridiculous. And you can barely call her shouting ” we run this muttha” over and over again singing.
I’m still unsure of why she was given this award at all. There are so many other more deserving artists out there.
while i did enjoy beyonce, i cant still agree with sandra at same time but i will add, i admire her what she puts in to it. case in point, britney spears who been in the business as long if not longer than beyonce. britney came out and was the ish, could dance had a voice everything…now? shes a shell of her former self. she refuses to sing live, and kinda wiggles around stage stoned looking.
bey- having been in buz, appreciates her audience and will give a good show, if you already dont like it fine, but the girl works hard and that what i liked!
i feel sorry for the people buying tickets to britneys tour just to see her lip sing and sleep walk through it….smh
(i CAN still agree with sandra-meaning its not best thing since sliced bread, but i will give credit when due)
THE POINT IS WHO CARES?????
THOSE WHO DON’T LIKE HER ARE NOT THE MAJORITY BUT THE MINORITY
THE PROFESSIONALS/EXPERTS HAVE SPOKEN-DON’T GET MAD IT SIMPLY IS WHAT IT IS..
IT’S HUMAN NATURE TO TRY TO FIND FAULT WITH SOMEONE WHO SEEMS TO HAVE EVERYTHING-THERE’S AN EMOTION FOR THAT IT’S CALL ENVY
IT’S OKAY-IT’S A NORMAL REACTION YOU ALL WILL GET OVER IT
Whoever did the technical work needs the damn award!!! They helped her out big time!! Other than that that look like the same rountine from MTV awards when DIL came out. All in all the effects were niceeeee after that nothing was spectular.
#mytwocents
That was a great performance! When you haters can get up there and do that choreography and belt out the song effortlessly simultaneously….holla at me. Until then…..who run the world? Girls! Go Bey!
OMG!!! I am
at the fact that NO ONE clapped or screamed for Solange when she appeared on screen!!! That girl looks a Hot Mess… LMBO!!!
But to Beyonce:
So proud of her! Houston Texas Stand Up! All Your Hard Work Is Paying Off Beyonce! Congrats!
If Beyonce stands on her head and sings the hell out of the song, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that she should be past this stage in her career. Like it or not, its a major setback! She has been in the game 15 yrs right
She should’ve passed this ish right to Willow and jumped on the remix if she loved it so much
Bey is a killer on stage. She leaves it all on the floor during her performances. does anyone know who did the choreography for the video? was it Laurie Ann “Boom Kat”?
Nope but the choreography is refurbished just like the single
Bey killed it! Although
I think its safe to say that Tina is not the shiniest apple in the bunch
britney came out and was the ish, could dance had a voice everything…now? shes a shell of her former self. she refuses to sing live, and kinda wiggles around stage stoned looking.

I took my daughter to a britney spears concert.. had to have been at least 7.. 8 years ago.. britney spears lip snyched the whole show and her dancing was par at best.. but her songs are catchy
As long as she’s happy,i’m happy!!!!!!
I’m not a huge Beyonce fan, however I’m a realist and obviously most of the people that view this site are not starting with the owner. I’ve never seen so much hate towards a sucessful young African American woman than I do about Beyonce on this site. “Obviously the owner is seriously obsessed with you or just flat out jealous”
First, there is NO female artist that has been more relevant than she has over the last 10 years whether you like it or not. Also, she is a performer, and a very good one at that. She sings and dances without missing a beat, who else does that???? No one. Yeah we had Janet who I personally loved and while she can perform, she can’t sing a lick, lets see who else…..Ciara? again, can dance but not sing. Alicia, who is a star in her own right, can she perform other than signing…..um no! Okay MJB, great performances but she doesn’t give you the show that Beyonce does either. It’s sad that you’ll find so much negativity to say about someone with her sucess and ability. The girl is a STAR. P.E.R.I.O.D!
And BTW! whether you have negative or positive things to say I doubt she would care because as long as you thinking about her enough to do either you’re keeping her relevant. Just like a woman to hate on another woman.
Go BEY! they’re hating so you’re doing your job. Keep this blog site relevant by doing your thang!
and Sandra, while you’re hating…..who was better than her last night????? Such a damn hater! you and the rest of your stans on here. You so want to be her, but since you’re talentless stick to your sometimes true, most times not blog site. I’m sure people love you. NOT!
Such a shame….Beyonce took her performance from Lorella Cuccari’s 2010 performance. Don’t believe me? Look for yourself…

Ok I will say I thought the entire show was garbage. Award shows aren’t like they used to be. I honestly don’t look forward to them anymore. Next Yes beyonce is a performer but to me the song and the video just didn’t cut it. I almost feel like in today’s society even if there were another artist out there who could sing and dance, I don’t think we’d give her a chance. It’s like we only allow 1 superstar at a time. Plus I think they’d always get the saying that they are trying to be like so and so. Also when did having your own opinion turn into hating? sn: I know people like to talk bad about Solange but I thought her cd was awesome, gave me that ol school feeling
Beyonce’s Billboard Music Awards Show Strikingly Similar To Year-Old Performance From Italian Singer.
In February 2010, Lorella took the stage at the 60th Sanremo Music Festival in Italy and delivered a show before a white screen and digital accompaniments that has drawn undeniable comparisons to Beyoncé’s Billboard Music Awards performance..
As Lorella danced, the backdrop was filled with computerized birds, a bouncing ball, a red staff, a set of wings, a series of drums, and an army of choreographed clones, all of which also appeared in Beyoncé’s set..
