My how time flies. Just 3 years ago, black Americans couldn’t get enough of president-elect Barack Obama. And now Americans can’t get enough of black presidential candidate Herman Cain.
Today, new polls show the former pizza maker surging ahead of President Obama and his closest GOP rival Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
Whether Herman Cain’s surge in the polls is temporary or has staying power, he’s enjoying a big enough bounce to take a very slight lead over President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 matchup. At the moment, the Georgia businessman is the only Republican with a lead of any kind over Obama, although former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has held a similar advantage several times and is currently trailing the president by just two points.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters shows Cain attracting 43% support, while Obama earns 41%.
According to Rasmussen Reports, Cain is tied with Romney for the lead in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. Nobody else is even close at the moment.
Isn’t America a great country? I wish I was American so I could vote.
Please take a moment to participate in our poll below.
999 = 666
That sound you hear is the footsteps of former Obama kool aid drinkers rushing to jump on the Herman Cain bandwagon

That quip about ppl needing “to go get rich..” and Black are un-saveable.
This man is a CLOWN to the highest degree. Racism is not a factor in economic equality….not according to Mr. Cain. Its education and “geography”, he says.
Racism works perfectly when you put a Black face on it, huh? I used to think Blacks couldnt be racist (I believ racism is about power) but Herman Cain may be the 1st at something after all…cause he sure isnt the 1st stunt the Repubs have used. That title belongs to Palin.
Wheres Intense when we need a self hate /rant???

At the end of the day I think that money is the most important factor regardless of the party. It doesnt matter what these politicans promise during their campaign, once they get elected they are going to look out for the people that gave the most to the campaign and the people that they made all sort of promises to. It’s depressing just thinking about it.
Cain is the hot topic now, but come another month it may be rick santorum, all it takes is a catchy phrase or an outgoing moment and your the next hot thing… last month it was Perry, There plenty of time left in this race the the repubs im sure Newt Gingrich gonna get his turn too before its all said and down
But Trust Obama would be i office 2012 and Chirs Chrsitie will be there 2016 if he has his health.. Obama has taken the oath to complete the job and Christie will continue on…. Ya vote dont matter #OWS

@ screwball69: At least you have your hopes and dreams
@Sandra, I’m just curious as to why you’re against President Obama??
Correct me if I’m wrong, and I may be as I don’t follow politics, but didn’t he/isn’t he:
– extend unemployment for those who are still unable to find a job
– issue stimulus checks which a number of people spent on bull anyway
– approve the education credit so those of us back in school received more money after we filed taxes
– bailout banks so they can in turn help those dumb azzes who thought they could afford a million dollar house with a $30k salary
– vouching for healthcare reform & social security benefits so our grandparents who worked hard for nothing can enjoy a decent retirement
– asking for fair tax rates because it isnt right that a plumber is paying more taxes than a millionaire
I’m confused. Republicans are against all of that and they want to
tell middle class americans to go to hellkeep the same tax rates but THATS who you want in office?Somethin about him screams Clarence Thomas to me
The Republicans tried to bamboozle us with Sarah Palin to get the disgruntled female vote from the Hilary lovers and the middle America bigots. Too bad she was an idiot. FAIL!! Now they are trotting out this dude to get the black vote? Like any ole black face will do because we are interchangeable? How insulting!! Major fail!!
I don’t know what was expected of President Obama, but after they started going after him 90 days into his presidency, I knew it was going to be on and popping for his entire presidency. I will be lobbying to get erry damn body I know out to the polls come election day.

Im mad because no bankers or wall streeters are in jail..I do blame the President for that. But he gets my vote for 4 more years because the republicans just want to “break him” no matter who else gets damaged. They think they can clean the mess up later. That’s why Im trying to buy property out of the country because the republicans are willing to bring back the 1800s if they don’t get their way. And these black people that are going along with them, under the guise of “thinking for themselves” are not gonna like what they’ll turn this nation into.

Being a research scientist, I can tell you that the difference between 435 and 41% is not statistically significant. If you look at the methodology of this survey it clearly tells you there margin of error of +/- 3 points. Also, this is a survey of 1,000 people with LANDLINE phones. So who are those people??? Old retired folks, people without jobs, etc. Also, they don’t include folks with cellular phones, thus a significant proportion of mainstream society is automatically excluded (as cellular devices out number landlines). And that fact alone makes me do a Kanye
when these polling surveys can include a broader sample then I’ll believe it.

As for the foreclosures I do blame the banks to a certain point, but I also blame the homeowners to. During 2001-2005 people were signing up for very bad loans, not reading the small print and etc. I think that some people were just so happy to be able to purchase a home, that they didnt think at how easy it was or how they could afford it when the interest rates increased.

When I hear people say they’ve been unemployed for 2-3 years…ur schittin me. not on my watch. I wish I would.
At some point we have to start looking at ourselves and accept the realization that our skills are obsolete, or at that of an 8th grader. If you go longer than 6 months (and that’s extreme to me) unemployed, I’m giving the side-eye.
——————————————————–
I was unemployed for 15 months. Now I was contracting but that is not the same as a full time perm. gig. And it took me 9 months to find a contracting gig.
My sister who UNC educated (semi-ivy league) has been unemployed for almost 2.5 years. Not for lack of looking. And her skills can’t be THAT obsolete b/c she was employed with the same company for 15 years prior to her layoff. She can’t find work doing ANYTHING. Wal-Mart, receptionist, nathan. And she DID go back to school to get re-trained and now she is finished with THAT and still can’t find a job.
I am an HR major so please let’s debate.

@point I figured this much. Finding a job, especially in todays economy, isn’t that easy so it can easily take months to get a job. The job I’m working at didn’t give me an offer until 3 months after I applied and interviewed. It’s not as easy as it sounds especially depending on the field you’re in. So don’t be so quick to say that 6 months is too long.

I heard that Teresa and Jacqueline recently had some words on twitter where J said that T was phoney or something like that. T allegedly started rumor that Melissa was a stripper.
@Choco:
Apparently Teresa tried to have Melissa set up at a party a few weeks back. Melissa use to work at a strip club as a “bartender” and Teresa wanted someone to come and expose Melissa as a stripper in front of everybody and it backfired on her. Now Jacqueline wants no parts of the little ape.

are people opposed to relocating? I’m not insensitive to the state of unemployment, trust me I’m not. I look at career ops in other states quite often. It’s amazing how many pages of ops come up in other states while in metro ATL, in my field, I may get a page or 2. But I’ve worn so many different hats, exposed to different apps that many companies use.
You gotta turn that into something. And I always do. When I hear interviews or read articles of execs saying they can’t fill positions because people aren’t qualified, I have to shrug my shoulders.
Republicans and the Teabaggers are really desperate.

@138 to each their own. 6 months is a long time too. I will admit that I’ve gone thru an interview today, hired a month or 2 later (already employed). It works for me. I’m in no position to host seminars and whatnot. Just interesting imo.

People are not realizing that this is a whole new economy.. These corporations are sitting on their money and not hiring.. And yes there is discrimination and not just for race either…they are discriminating for age, weight, and for being unemployed in the first place. Lots of places will not hire anyone who is currently unemployed. Really it’s all a ruse they are sitting this out to get President Obama out. They are sitting on trillions of dollars. The people lucky enough not to have lost their jobs so far in this depression (yes depression no recession) don’t realize the game has changed. They still think it’s the days when just about anyone could waltz into mickey d’s or wal mart and get a job just to hold them over. Well Mickey d’s had over 1 million applications for 50,000 openings in April and Wal Mart can’t hire everybody and they really not interested in you and your masters degree cause they know you ain’t gonna stay. It’s very easy to be highly educated and experience and be unemployed for more that 2 years. In fact it’s more likely a person and their 2 or 3 degrees is unemployed cause the don’t want your educated azz threatening their position.
@Creamy I don’t think you’re being mean. It’s a mature debate so speak yo mind!
Whether it’s a right or a priviledge people fought for us to do so and I’m not going to disrgard that by sitting on my hands. Whether my vote counts or not they can’t say that I didn’t exercise my right/priviledge to do so.
Its not a right to you, its a priviledge, no hard feelings, the illusion that you have a right is bull, they give you a card to register just like a drivers license, they can revoke it anytime. I not being mean really ladies just making some points out to you that is all, dont chew me up

But first he needs to come up w/the right plan which he doesn’t have or hasn’t had in the last 3 yrs I’m tired of hearing “yes we CAN”! yeah, relo’s do cost, and a perm gig has to be waiting. that’s not the case for a lot. It’s just me, so a lot of times I remain quiet because my situation is not like the average person. I do have a house in atl, but that’s it (no fam, kids, etc). so it’s a lot easier for me to up and move for the right opp.
Having all those expensive degrees and unemployed is nothing I wish on anybody. This is a different reality now. More and more companies will go to temps/contract employees. They save so much money on benefits. The pool is so vast, they can do it.
Mamacita, I interviewed for a gig in August, didn’t hear anything for a couple weeks. The Ops Mgr finally got back to me and said ‘we’re still interviewing candidates.’ blank stare.

It is indeed a privilege but research has found that it can also be looked on as a responsibility…
Indeed a study conducted in 2006 by Peter D. Hart Research Associates found far most participants in a series of focus groups saw voting as a responsibility or a privilege more than as a right. Many categorized voting primarily as a privilege because previous generations had fought for it and other countries don’t enjoy the same freedom. The plurality of participants saw it primarily as a responsibility because it highlights the importance of choosing the government. Many of these participants chose not to classify it primarily as a “right” because the word “right” suggested to them a sense of entitlement.

Good point Dats but blacks didnt walk away from their business’ they were burned down and the owners were tortured because they were living better than yt at the time. It really does make u wonder where some of those business would be today.
Ref: The Black Wall Street
“The date was June 1, 1921, when “Black Wall Street,” the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving 36-Black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering–a model community destroyed, and a major African-American economic movement resoundingly defused.”

———————————
You right..that happened a lot. I wasn’t ignoring that. But I’ve just studied the history of the community I grew up in. it goes back to the 1880s. There were black owned butcher shops, movie theaters, clubs, bars, restaurants, laundries, grocery stores , car washes, lawyers and doctors and dentists offices, funeral homes and even a pharmacy. Right up until the late 60s and early 70s by the mid 80s all of them were gone. Of course not all of these businesses would have survived anyway but more than a few of them went out of business because the old proprietor died and the kids didn’t want to be bothered because they went to school got a degree and wanted a steady paycheck from a big company or the government. It’s a shame the only thing in my old hood now is the korean store and the gas station that some middle easterns own. Well corporate America is sitting on trillions and not hiring. And the Government is broke and we’re paying the price as a community because we were depending on them too much for our livelihoods. I was too but I’ve learned my lesson. Unemployment will be even worse if the Post Office lays off 125,000 like they say they need too. That was black folk ticket into the middle class and now they pulling it.

@KDubb…I was told I made too much for food stamps WITHOUT child support! I was getting $700.00 every other week and my damned rent was $750.00 and I have 2 kids. I don’t think the system is set up to help ppl that really need it sometimes.

I’m totally with ya on that one. But, I’m reading EVERY post EVERYONE is making from the RHONY to KDub’s sisters job search. I learn something new everyday. Don’t forget that this blog is read by more than just us regular posters. I know it seems like we are all in our own SR world, but there are many that just read and lurk. The information is getting out there…..I’m hoping.

Why people hate the politics posts. Everything can’t be about RHI, Bey, TI or the BBQ wives… i know this is primarily a celeb gossip blog but it’s good to change it up sometimes

I dont hate political post. I find it quite refreshing to read what folks have to say. I may comment here and there, but I dont engage in convos of that nature on a blog tho. I reserve that that for the folks I work with since alot of decisions that get made hit us military close to home….

He’s a very mean, old man. If Americans vote him into office, they’ll be getting what they deserve.
This man will be using the public airwaves to continually whine, nag, and reprimand the nation—especially blacks.
If whites think that they hate Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson, just wait until they have to hear this man constantly berate the public, every single day.
#cmonson I’m not clairvoyant or anything but I’m pretty sure the GOP isn’t going to make Cain their nominee..
I say that people have to right to vote or not to vote. Doesn’t matter whether ancestors were beaten and killed for the “right” to vote. You don’t vote for just anyone because you can or they are there.

THAT COMMENT (#205) was for Comment #203 (@Atypical…)
It doesn’t matter what mask they put on the politics, government, of this country – a mulatto one or a black one. It doesn’t matter whether the black ancestry is native or foreign rooted, it’s still all some bullshit. The underlying political, commercial and economic strongholds will still be there. The elite families will retain the disposition of power in this country, and in the world.
And if people think Barack Obama doesn’t give a shit about black people, Herman Cain REALLY doesn’t give a shit about black people, specifically poor and working-class black people.
People want to call Barack Obama a house negro…if we’re going to use plantation slave analogy Herman Cain is the house negro who told on his own and got them lynched. Born in the field, he is the 5th generation posterity of a slave African and one of the first mayors of the town. His ancestors were encouraged to interbreed with non-mulatto and field slaves. As a youngster, the master recognized his ancestry, adorable looks, and his high I.Q. thus took him away from his mother, a field slave, into his home and educated him. He had to take the disposition as the tattle-tale negro because no one in the field had his back, as he’d made it clear that he was better than them. He could only trust himself and did whatever he had to in order to survive.
Barack Obama is the house negro who didn’t have to work as hard to justify his existence to his master/father because he was half white. He was a little clueless about what it was like for a field negro, but he tried to understand. He even was involved with a field negro and secretly fathered a child by her. He also had a heart and would recognize the injustices committed against the other slaves. By disposition, being of some privilege, he sometimes would take, and get away with, an authoritative approach in addressing his fellow slaves. However, he would sometimes side with the field negros, helping them out of some sticky situations – he spared a few from being lynched and whipped. He was never known to ‘deliberately’ conspire to see any of them harmed or killed.
I feel that Hermain Cain is a distraction. The Republicans will do whatever is necessary to sway the vote. They need to focus on the problems at hand and help who is already in office. There are too many Americans out of work, homeless, and starving.
when did politics become such a joke?you could go to the poll and vote for anybody and it wouldnt make more or less difference..
Uncle Tom aka Herman Cain’s wife is black:
