Mary J Blige – “Why” (radio rip) and “Mr. Wrong”

R&B Diva Mary J Blige continues her trend of throwing music into the wind and hoping something sticks. We love Mary but she hasn’t put out a resonating album since What’s The 411 (1992) and My Life (1994).

Since her early, crack-fueled glory days Mary’s music has been mostly hit and miss. It’s clear that she’s one artist who requires a lot of drama in her life to influence her music. Things must really be going well for her at home.

Mary’s latest efforts, “Why” (radio rip) and “Mr. Wrong” also miss the mark completely. Both tracks are off her new album My Life II: The Journey Continues.

“Why” features Rick Ross and “Mr. Wrong”, an updated version of Billy Paul’s 1972 hit “Me and Mrs. Jones”, features rap aficionado Drake. I mean, how can you go wrong with Drake on your track?

I LOVES ME some MJB, but yes I do agree with this statement. Share My World is classic; Mary, No More Drama, Love & Life & Breakthrough were cool and from there, she fell off with urbanites like myself… Her music is garbage now

I aint never been a stan of an artist but if I was, Mary would be it. But I gotta say that im not feeling anything from this My Life II. If Mary was gonna name it after her BEST cd, she should have made sure it was gonna be hotter than anything shes ever done and im my seeing that so far. And why do these artist always have to throw a rapper that hot today on a track. Get an old school rapper like Heavy D or somebody and bring back the good ole days sometimes. But hopefully the album is better than what I think it will be.

Don’t you try MJB like that. You know her album Mary (1999) and The Breakthrough (2005) are classics. And to whoever it was that said The Breakthrough only sold like 500k its first week, it was more like close to 750k, and the album after that did over 600k its first week. You have to give credit where credit due Auntie- after strong consistent 20 years and 65 million records sold, MJB is iconic at this point.

I think it was 750k the first week but she is far from hit and miss They airbrushed the hell out of that picture. I don’t think she will ever be able to touch My Life that shyt is timeless.

I saw Mary on the Hammer tour when she first came out. It was her Jodeci and TLC! This woman has come a long way. My Life is my favorite but I will be getting this album! I ride with this chick.

i don’t particularly like this pic, but i’m a die hard mary fan and her last album was definitely not a miss…it was well done. hopefully this one will be too. i can’t wait to hear these two joints when i get off work.

oh and yes…the breakthrough did 750k first week of sales, as she mentions while rapping in busta’s song, “TOUCH IT.”

I have been a fan of Mary’s since she was singin’ hooks on Father MC’s “I’ll Do For You.” I like both songs, but The Rick Ross feature isn’t needed. Just because an artist is hot, doesn’t mean you need to have them on your song. Her worst album for me was that “Love + Life album that was mostly produced by Diddy. Pain does inspire the best in some artists, but as consumers we need to applaude when folks get out of destructive situations.
