CNN has apparently caved in to pressure from gay groups by suspending political analyst Roland Martin for making a joke about British soccer star David Beckham.
A CNN spokeswoman confirmed the suspension with this statement issued today:
“Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive. Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being.”
Martin came under attack from gay groups after tweeting a wisecrack about Beckham’s underwear commercial which aired during Sunday’s Super Bowl telecast on NBC.
Martin seemed to suggest in his tweet that his followers “smack the ish out of” any male Super Bowl fan who is “hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad.”
Martin added that “real bruhs” would not purchase underwear advertised by Beckham.
A network suspension is usually the first step towards a contract termination. Martin was a CNN political analyst for 4 years.

An Alabama man who stabbed a Mobile police officer to death, stole a police cruiser and then shot another officer on Friday was shot and killed by officers after a standoff.
The chain of events started early Friday morning when Lawrence Wallace Jr. walked into a store with a lighter and lighting fluid and ordered the cashier to hand over the money that was in the register.
As the cashier was handing over the money, Wallace jumped over the counter and began spraying the lighter fluid on the floor and started a fire.
An off-duty officer who was in the store tackled Wallace to the ground and then cuffed him.
Mobile Mayor Samuel Jones told reporters that Wallace was taken to metro jail and while at the station Wallace stabbed Officer Steven Green.
It is unclear whether Officer Green was the off-duty cop who apprehended Wallace and Mayor Samuel did not say what weapon was used to stab the officer and how Wallace was able to obtain it.
Mayor Jones said Wallace then stole a police cruiser which started a massive manhunt for the fugitive.
Officers later found the police cruiser without Wallace.
Twenty-four year old Wallace was later found hiding under a house and during a standoff Wallace shot an officer.
Police opened fire killing Wallace.
It is unclear how Wallace was able to obtain the gun.

The folks over at Rumor Fix received inside info that the newly blonde Rihanna and comeback kid Chris spent several hours together at the Grammy rehearsals. And they didn’t mind that it altered the schedule:

Sources tell RumorFix that the Barbadian beauty held up rehearsals for the Grammys on the Sony lot in Los Angeles, while she was behind doors with her ex.”
Hmmm. Reportedly, Chris’ male friend was also with him in Rihanna’s dressing room. Some folks are speculating some type of surprise duet effort will take place since this is Chris’ first time at the Grammys since ChriannaGate. Others says they are just working on their friendship.
Chris’ rep shot down rumors weeks ago the two are romantically involved saying, “He and Rihanna are just friends. He [Chris] is with his girlfriend, Karrueche [Tran], and is not cheating.”
