Colorado mass murder suspect James Holmes made his first appearance in a Colorado courtroom moments ago. He is being held without bond in the shooting deaths of 12 film goers and injuring 58 others during a midnight screening of Batman: Dark Knight Rises early Friday. Holmes appeared to be heavily medicated as the judge explained that his case qualifies for 1st degree murder charges.
Holmes wore prison-issued clothing when he was escorted into the courtroom by armed guards. He appeared to nod off many times during the court hearing. At other times he struggled to keep his eyes open. Formal charges will be brought against Holmes on Monday.
Psychotic detainees are sometimes medicated if they are combative or pose a threat to others prior to a court hearing.

Actually CO has a concealed weapons law that allows you to carry in public as long as it’s concealed. However, homie was dressed in head to toe body armor, so a handgun wouldn’t have taken him out. But yes, you can carry concealed in this State. I take my weapon everywhere, but unless I’m in a situation where I feel I may need it, I keep it in my glove compartment in my car….

I had an ex that carried everywhere. He put his gun in the glove compartment while driving, and holstered everytime he got out to go inside an establishment. No, you wouldn’t think that a movie theater would be an unsafe venue, but the world is going to hell in a handbasket. This makes me step up where I carry, though, I’ll tell you that much.
The gunman purchased a ticket, went in to the theater to prop open the exit door, walked back around the theater to said exit door, entered that way and tossed two tear gas canisters. When people started getting up to exit and to see what was going on, he started firing. After the massacre, he calmly began walkign back to his car in the theater parkign lot. The Aurora PD is literalyl less than a minute from this theater, thats’ why they were able to respond so quickly and apprehend him. He wasn’t trying to hide or escape. He DID want to notoriety, he DID want Cops killed and he DIDN’T care that he got caught….There’s not tellin how this willplay out, but a defense lawyers job is to get his client off with the least possible sentence, so yeah, the M’Naughton rule will most certainly come into play (insanity defense)

Better gun laws imo would not have helped in this case. A person who wants a gun will get a gun and the ammunition needed whether it’s done legally or illegally. An Insanity plea just means he doesn’t serve hard time; that he’ll be in a mental institution until he is deemed no longer a threat to society. The judge does have the power to not allow an insanity defense if the evidence warrants such a dismissal. Only time will tell, as the Aurora PD is still investigating.
I think only one service memeber was killed, but still, you’re correct in the thought process that Cops will go for blood if one of their own is injured or killed, but he TOLD the Cops about the explosives in his apartment….that right there showcases intent and proving intent is key to a judge ruling against an insanity plea. Now, that being said, his Lawyer can argue that a Man trying to get away with the crime would have run or hid. That would form the basis for his train of thought and if he was coherent enough to formulate a getaway, he wasn’t insane; the fact that he didn’t run or attempt to elude codl bolster and insanity defense.
Not saying it’s right, but the criminal justice system is one of the most corrupt; where the victims are perps and the perps are vicitms….

Goat, he had bombs rigged on his apartment so he could’ve done the bomb thing if he just wanted people to die. I think he got off on the thrill of watching those people run for their lives and a bomb would have wiped everyone out without the fear factor of them running and screaming not knowing who would be hit next. Just my own analysis though

@Love but at the same time there are genuine collectors of such items that would never dream of using one against another person and you can control what someone does to a gun in their own home that they own. Some people just like to tinker with things to see what they can make them do (some use guns, other use cars) just like some like to take those kinds of guns to the range for harmless use
but I agree that something needs to be done. I think there should be a mental health check required prior to purchasing any gun and if large supplies of ammunition are purchased the police should be notified. At the least create a database like the drugstores do to alert if someone is making purchases at several locations in large quantities, that can be done easily and the technology is already in place

The Albertson’s have been closing, though. I think we may have two left in CO. When I moved to California for awhile, I asked around about the warehouse stores, and my co-worker told me they were called ‘Smart and Final’… I was like they’re called what?
But, I was also introduced to ‘two buck chuck’ and me and chuck been homies ever since…in fact, they’re brigning a few Trader Joe’s out within the next year….Oh, and we just got an IKEA about a year ago…
