It seems that most of rap mogul Jay Z’s friends are either in prison or turning on him.
According to Page Six, Jay Z filed a lawsuit against his former personal chef, and head chef for the 40/40 Club, Mike Shand.
Jay Z hired Shand to run the sports bar’s newly renovated kitchen after Shand cooked for Jigga and wife Beyonce on tour.
But after the health department shut down 40/40 earlier this year, Shand flew the coop — taking his special recipes with him.
In court documents Jay Z’s legal hounds argue that Shand’s stolen recipes ended up “costing the club lost profits, loss of good will [and] alienation of clientele.” In other words, the club was hemorrhaging money (again) and Shand jumped ship rather than accept the blame for the latest failure.
One source told Page Six that Shand left “taking the recipes to popular menu items such as chicken wings, forcing the club to sue.” But according to Page Six, Shand “happily handed over all his recipes — except his spice mix.”
Shand’s lawyer Vik Pawar told Page Six, “The spice-mix recipe that Mike developed is his own recipe. 40/40 terminated him, then had the audacity to sue him for his recipes. He gave them all apart from this spice mix because it is his own. Mike had a wonderful relationship with Jay-Z and Beyonce for many years.”
Insiders are whispering that Jay Z’s carefully constructed empire is crumbling — and the cracks are beginning to show. It’s just a matter of time before someone writes a tell-all book exposing the former drug dealer for what he really is.
