I think you are right. Celebs receive a lot of free things and THEY go out and buy them – trying to be like their “idols”.

Most people use this term creole and don’t even know what it means. Just a fancy way of saying my folks are mixed with Europeans – somewhere down the line. I find that bishes just want to brag that “I’m not just black. I have creole in my family.” There is also the creole language – broken down French.

creoles are originally french in origin. they settled in the french quarters and have a VERY distinct culture. as black slaves worked and um, intermingled, with them, those slaves took on the same characteristics and culture and eventually began to called themselves creole too. the original creoles spoke FRENCH, period. as time and people went by, this became broken french, and finally nothing with these passe blancs who swear they are “creole” now.
My Opinion: Creole is the French breeds in Louisiana. They have a lot of Indian culture and French language. I consider them black but, you can tell by how they talk and what they believe in that their culture is different from the rest of us. It’s kind of like how I am just black and I don’t answer to African American. Nothing about my culture is African. I’m black American. I won’t even p*ss an African person off by pretending that I can identify with their current struggles or culture in Africa. I have black American issues. There is a difference in my opinion. My ancestors come from many places and mostly Africa but, I can’t water down their culture by pretending that I identify with their current day struggles. I have a lot of African friends and there is a clear difference in culture and beliefs. The ones I know get offended if a black American person thinks they are African but, they accept that we are all “universal black”. This is such an odd and tedious topic for some people.

new orleans, as a port city, is kinda weird because we got everybody off the ships–spanish, french, carribbean, irish, etc. so our heritage is hella mixed. in new orleans, you never know how your child is gonna look, lol.
today’s creole culture is more seen in the cooking than anything. a lot of the original culture is gone. they had a lot of customs though.
