Chanel has dismissed rumors that troubled singer Rihanna is the new face of the high end brand. Rihanna sparked a torrent of rumors that she was the new face of the iconic brand when she Instagram’d the above photo along with the text: “And that’s a #wrap on my shoot for my new #topsecret ad campaign!!! #2013?.
But Chanel confirmed via an article on Vogue.co.uk, that Rihanna is NOT the new face of Chanel. But that’s not all, Chanel also confirmed there was no photo shoot or ad campaign. Oops!
Rihanna is not the new face of Chanel, we can confirm. A spokesperson from the fashion house told Vogue.co.uk that the Vogue cover girl has not been photographed for one of its campaigns – despite a succession of reports to the contrary.
Online speculation first emerged back in January, when the singer shared a picture on her Instagram account – in which she appeared to be wearing Chanel jewellery – alongside the comment: “And that’s a #wrap on my shoot for my new #topsecret ad campaign!!! #2013?. The post was quickly followed by a number of reports suggesting that she could be the new face of the brand’s accessories line.
The singer is a loyal customer of the fashion house, and is often seen wearing Karl Lagerfeld’s designs – further fuelling the rumours that have been circulating for the past two months. It still remains to be seen as to which “top secret ad campaign” Rihanna was referring to in her original post – although her upcoming collaboration with MAC Cosmetics is a likely contender – but it’s definitely not Chanel.
