A 20-year-old rapper was shot dead in front of 3,000 shocked fans in Brazil early Sunday. Cell phone footage shows MC Daleste talking to the crowd when a shot rang out and the rapper fell to the stage mortally wounded. MC Daleste, real name Daniel Pellegrine, was giving a free performance at a public housing complex in San Paolo when he was shot. The rapper was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. MC Daleste’s grieving father said jealousy and envy were to blame for the violence that claimed his son’s life.

The 20-year-old Brazilian star died in hospital shortly after he was shot during a free gig for 3,000 fans in Campinas, 50 miles north of Sao Paulo, on Saturday.
More than 100,000 people have paid tribute on a memorial page.
The victim’s dad Roland Pellegrine said: “He had no enemies. It was envy. Jealousy kills.”
New York-based DJ Béco, who is from Sao Paulo, said: “This is one more sad event in a long history of urban violence in Brazil.
“Music should be the peaceful medium that connects us all for good times and for change.”

I stopped listening to rap a while ago. We were watching the EBT awards and I didn’t know who most of these folks were. I can’t even find the find the RB stations here. I was watching VH1 Soul the other day and they had some old school raps, it seems like that was fun. My preacher talked about how the beat sucks you in. Not trying to get too deep. but the devil was one of the best musicians.

I remember when I first stopped listening to rap. I was watching a hair video and this popular rap song was playing in the background. Started dancing and everything, turned it real quick. With me being a mom , I have to be extra careful at what I let in our home.

I stopped listening to rap when I heard JayZ’z rap verse on Deja Vu where he was rapping about selling cocaine and heroin. It was so slick and if werent listening to the lyrics wouldnt catch on. The beat was hot, the video was sexy but the underlying message was selling drugs and sex..

I miss old school rap…these days, almost all of the rap (played on radio, at least) is ego driven — all they talk about is themselves — old school rap talked about social ills and the like. Now all anyone seems to care about is how much shyt they’ve got. It’s sickening. Not only rap either — what’s that song by Ny-O (or however you spell it)…talking about his boats and the good life — that song was released in the midst of a hellish recession and he’s talking about all his material shyt and saying “it’s a beautiful day!” Ok, little snake-lipped negro. Rap culture is pure evil today, back in the 80’s it was rock n roll because that’s what ruled the charts and now the devil has taken over hip hop because it is now mainstream! I applaud Sandra Rose for her posts because unlike few bloggers she’s not blind with the glitz and the glammer. #rip to this young man so sad and senseless :'(
I’m not sure if anyone mentioned this, but if you look at the :20 mark, it was the heavyset guy in the black shirt behind the stage to the left who shot him, and then fled.
This is horrible. These rappers must be just as afraid as they are happy to in the business. Isn’t it funny how urban station play so much rap music now like that is all black music. R&b groups have just about vanished. The soul has gone out of our music. We are a soulful people and today’s music does not cultivate that.
These music execs discovered if you pump enough money into anyone to make anything eventually the masses will come around. They could care less for your intelligent rapper, your soul uplifting singers or your melodic sense aligning instrumentalist.
As much as we want to groove to young jeezy r.i.p., how can we make light of all these brothers and sisters dying everyday. Especially in places like Chicago. Listen and think, that’s my PSA.
