Former TV dad Jon Gosselin, who gained fame on the reality TV show Jon + Kate Plus 8, admitted he pulled a gun and fired a warning shot in the air when a photographer got too close to his Pennsylvania home.
“I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun, which I withdrew,” Jon told gossip blog TMZ. He said he fired the shot into the air to scare the photographer into leaving his property, not to hurt her: “It is well within my rights under Pennsylvania law when someone is trespassing on private property,” he said.
Gosselin and his ex-wife Kate reaped the financial rewards of exploiting their 8 children (six of them sextuplets) on their popular reality show. But as often happens when weak-minded men gain a little money and fame — Jon let it go to both of his heads.
Kate finally filed for divorce after Jon paraded a string of loose women in front of their school age children. The viewing public lost interest in the show once it was revealed that the Gosselins were not the perfect family that they pretended to be.
Gosselin was catapulted back into the news last week when he admitted he was bussing tables as a waiter to make ends meet.
Gosselin said he was apprehensive about taking a job after his funds dried up. He said it was “nearly impossible” to find work due to his notoriety from the show.
“At first I was nervous because I was like, ‘How are people going to react?'” Gosselin said. “But then I’m thinking ‘Well it’s fun and I get to talk to people.’ And they technically already know me … they’re like ‘Are you the guy?’ I’m like ‘Yeah, I’m the guy.'”
Gosselin told ET that getting a job humbled him after he “hit rock bottom about 20 times.”
He added: “You learn from your mistakes. That’s what builds you to who you are today.”
