Red Lobster customer denies allegations

The Red Lobster customer who was accused of writing a racial epithet on a receipt is denying the allegations, EURweb, com reports.

Devin Barnes of Tennessee says he is receiving threats after Red Lobster waitress Toni Christina Jenkins posted a photo of his receipt on her Facebook page.

Jenkins, a 19-year-old nursing student, told Mail Online that Barnes and another customer were “extremely rude” when she took their order.

She said they ordered $45 worth of food to go, and when they left she saw the words “none” on the tip line and “nigger” scrawled on the total line.

“This is what I got as a tip last night,” Jenkins wrote in the photo caption on Facebook. “…so happy to live in the proud southern states…God Bless America, land of the free and home of the low class racists of Tennessee.”

“I’ve never had to deal with that before,” Jenkins said.

Jenkins, who was suspended with pay, returned to work this week.

Barnes denied the allegations in a handwritten note: “I do not approve of the use of that type of talk, not now or ever!”

Barnes admitted he wrote “none” on the tip line for his take out order, which traditionally does not require a customer to leave a tip. But he denied writing “nigger” on the receipt.

“He’s just not that type of individual,” said Richard Dugger, Barnes’ attorney. “He doesn’t speak that way.”

“Whoever put that on that receipt was very wrong,” Dugger said.

Dugger said Barnes is still receiving threats from the public after Jenkins posted the receipt with Barnes’ full name clearly visible on it.

“Whoever put that on that receipt was very wrong,” Dugger said.
