Blogger Seth Adam Smith, a married man, wrote a blog post about overcoming his own selfishness on his way down the aisle with the Love of his life, Kim. Seth describes a conversation he had with his wise dad who told him point blank that marriage is not for men — though not in those exact words.
His dad’s exact words were:
Marriage isn’t for you. You don’t marry to make yourself happy, you marry to make someone else happy. More than that, your marriage isn’t for yourself, you’re marrying for a family. Not just for the in-laws and all of that nonsense, but for your future children. Who do you want to help you raise them? Who do you want to influence them? Marriage isn’t for you. It’s not about you. Marriage is about the person you married.”
Seth’s blog post has caught fire all over the Internet, on social media websites and message boards. It’s as if Seth’s message of self-sacrifice and consideration for others is a new concept in human behavior.
Personally, I think Seth cheated on Kim, and that’s what brought about his great metamorphosis. Seth and Kim are high school sweethearts who met when they were 15. It’s likely that Kim knows Seth is a dog — but she married him anyway, because dogs need Love too.
