It isn’t every day that a woman loses both of her breasts due to cancer. One patient decided to make her double mastectomy surgery a happy occasion with a dance off in the operating room.
Obviously this is not normal procedure in the OR where the environment is usually staid, sterile and depressing.
But the nurses and doctors treating Deborah Cohan at UCSF Medical Center at Mount Zion in San Francisco ignored the rules to dance to the strains of Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied” before Cohan went under the knife.
Cohan wrote about her plans for her “Get Me Bodied Flash Mob” operating room dance off in a blog post on Caringbridge.org.
I will be dancing in my little hospital gown and bouffant cap in the Mt. Zion operating room with the surgical and anesthesia teams. My fantasy is for you to play the song (found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RioOJ7dZxuw) and dance wherever you happen to be (in the kitchen, the carwash, subway platform [Dan!], classroom, Labor and Delivery unit, wherever!) — ideally at 7:30am but really anytime Tuesday. It would be extra remarkable if you could send me a photo (or, better yet, a short video segment) of you dancing (via caringbridge.org or deborahcohan1@gmail.com). I have visions of a healing video montage. Nothing brings me greater joy than catalyzing others to dance, move, be in their bodies. Are you with me people?

that was awesome. I sometimes dance with my patient’s with music playing before i perform their vitals to calm them of their nerves before they have their procedure. I sometimes get in trouble but as long as the patient is happy and comes out feeling better it’s all good. Chosen song lately has been Daft Punk and Pharell “Lose yourself to dance”

(CNN) – A man looking for his abducted cousin kicked in the back door of an abandoned house and shot and killed her kidnapper, authorities in Louisiana said.
The shooting Friday has been ruled justified by the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Department.
The cousin, whose name was withheld by the sheriff’s department, said he heard screams from the house, said Sheriff’s Capt. Kip Judice.
The cousin said he saw a man start stabbing 29-year-old Bethany Arceneaux when he broke through the door. The cousin fired several shots with a handgun, but he told police he wasn’t sure if he hit the kidnapper in the dark house, Judice said.
Inside, officers found the body of Scott Thomas, who had a child with Arceneaux and had previously violated a restraining order protecting her, Judice said.
Arceneaux was hospitalized with wounds but is expected to recover, the sheriff’s captain said.
Arceneaux disappeared Wednesday night. Thomas’ car was found that night abandoned behind a cane field about a mile from a road.
Police and bloodhounds had searched the area without success on Thursday. On Friday morning, police were met by about 20 relatives who had organized their own search party, Judice said.
Officers and relatives searched until about noon, when the cousin found the house.
“The cousin was at the right spot when he heard the screams,” Judice said.

Mama Joyce means well. Her delivery couldve been better. She just doesnt want kandi to make a huge mistake. Kandi makes poor decisions when it comes to a man. The last man had a bunch of kids, baby mamas and she chose to move this man in on her daughter. Its gonna be hard for Mama Joyce but this is kandi s decision and shes gon have to sit back and let her learn on her own…. 9 times out of 10, mama be right though.

I loved the idea of this. She is also a doctor and she was able to coordinate this well ahead of her surgery. I will be having the same surgery soon and this story and her attitude is inspiring.
