In last night’s episode of BET’s Being Mary Jane, news anchor Mary Jane Paul’s old flame David Paulk (played by Stephen Bishop) comes back into her life. Love addict Mary Jane (played by Gabrielle Union) is struggling to break her addiction on Andre Daniels, a married man (played by Omari Hardwick).
But David (pictured above with Mary Jane) is contending with his own Love addiction battle. David needs to see Mary Jane one more time to get her out of his system and to kick his emotional dependency on her once and for all.

Last night’s show was pretty tame but from the looks of it, next week should be good.

Also, I could totally relate to Mary Jane when it came to David….finding out that a former love (possibly someone you have gotten completely over with) has moved on and the relationship is pretty serious is TOUGH….(THAT’S ALL I CAN RELATE TO HER ABOUT IN REGARDS TO HER RELATIONSHIPS)

Its a great show, with good writing, adult content, and great actors. Its just like comparing The Cosby show to every other Black sitcom. Why cant both be great in their own lanes?

There’s no comparison to Scandal. People, GU went up for Scandal and didn’t get it. Please accept that had she gotten the part, Scandal would’ve been cancelled by now. Trust me. I can assure you BET dare not put BMJ on the same night and same time as Scandal. That would be the true test.
BMJ is a decent show. It’s not ground breaking or anything, but more of there’s nothing else on at 10pm on a Tuesday night, so I tune in usually. OK, Omari so damn fine. I don’t watch for GU, I watch for the 2 sexy guys she screwing. Omari in the boxer briefs. CLOSE UP, CLOSE UP. They didn’t do it. Yes, the thirst is real, but I am not a size queen.
I can see how some would make the comparison to Scandal: a black woman with a successful career and seemingly good life who is involved with a married man. That’s where the similarities end.
Last night’s episode was really good. Based on her drug dealing and drug addict brothers and her unmarried baby making niece I didn’t realize Mary Jane’s family was high society. I totally got her heartbreak over David. Here you have a great guy that you have a great time with and he fell for someone else, but couldn’t fall for you. That hurts. Yet I still like her with Andre. They really seem to get each other. Sad to hear that the season is short. I hope they can get a full season next time or it turns out that this is just going to be a midseason break like they did with The Game last season.

Took the words out of my mouth. Scandal story line is intense, the clients that Oliva Pope represents. Mary Jane is a news anchor (not exicting to me)
The “sex” scenes are racy like Scandal, I had the conversation with someone that Mary Jane was worse/racier than Scandal. They are the same to me, a single black woman, sleeping with a married man.
I’m about to go find some food before my stomach caves in…

this is of no interest to me, at all. that’s why i’d missed the entire 1st season of scandal. but when i happened to catch a few back-to-back reruns on bet one saturday, i was hooked. i love political suspense and anything that ‘peels back the curtain’ on how dc really operates (cause i believe there’s some truth revealed even though it’s ‘just tv’). olivia’s clientele could be any number of local politicians, right now.
plus, i enjoy seeing the monuments and other landmarks that i normally take for granted because i live here.

There are so many OTHER variables to this show besides her involvement with a married man, whom she didn’t know was married until AFTER she developed genuine feelings for…
Her family is a family who takes portraying images very seriously, but each member has their own difficulties in life. Both brothers have either drug usage or drug dealing issues, her mother is sick and still trying to maintain her strength, her father has lonely moments but is very loyal to his family and lives his wife.
MJ’s coworkers and friends are interesting characters….
And I watch Scandal, but that show has gotten so soapy lately that I don’t have the same excitement I used to have when it first started…
even still IMHO, both are shows that portray situations that are fictional dramas…I just think folks take a storyline too seriously and apply to their own lives or views unnecessarily….
