Singer Usher Raymond‘s New Year started off on the wrong foot. The 36-year-old crooner posted an image of an eye injury he apparently sustained in a fight. “You should see the other guy!!” he wrote in the caption accompanying the photo. If you know what happened to Usher, email me at sandra @ sandrarose.com (remove the spaces).

Hey Luv and all the Roses. Happy New Year and whatnot.
Do we have any Roses in Supervisory positions? If so, I have a manipulative employee and need suggestions on how to nip isht in the bud. I am new to my role as a Supervisor and I don’t want to come off as difficult.
Not a supervisor, but I say document anything you find shady.

A Georgia police chief, who claims he accidentally shot his wife twice, has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
UPDATE: Authorities provided an update at a Thursday afternoon press conference. “The initial reports that we got from a 911 call were that the chief had shot his wife, accidentally, twice. As a result of our preliminary interview, we have found that he only shot her one time,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Sherry Lang told reporters. Lang also said McCollom is fully cooperating with investigators.
According to the Peachtree City Police Department, their chief of police, William McCollom, called emergency dispatchers Thursday morning to report he had accidentally shot his wife.
Peachtree City, the largest city in Fayette County, is located approximately 30 miles southwest of Atlanta.
In circumstances that remain unclear, McCollom’s service weapon discharged twice and the bullets struck his wife, Margaret, Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Sherry Lang told 11alive.com.
Margaret McCollom was airlifted to the Atlanta Medical Center, where she is listed in critical condition.
“The investigation into this incident has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation due to the husband of the victim being the chief of police,” Peachtree City Police Lt. Mark Brown said in a press release.
Happy New Year Dubb!
@DNDM
Make sure you go over your expectations with the employee and follow up anything in writing… Make sure the employee knows where the Company and or Department policies can be found.. Don’t rely on the employee having “common sense” or knowing how things are done generally.. document everything..

Ms Peaches:
The issue is not taking direction, being manipulative to get out of meeting established deadlines, and thinking that they are going to run my unit to their benefit. I’m tired of the employee talking over me whenever I try to make a point. Just because the employee is not in agreement, the employee will cut me off and state what they want to take place.
For example: I will say, turn in Report #1 and Report #2 separately and according to their established deadline.
Employee will say, I just usually turn in Report #1 and Report #2 together. That’s just what I do.
I will then say, that is not how it is according to policy. As it stands now, Report #2 is already outdated when Report #1 comes due. This is not acceptable.
Employee will then say, Okay. I’ll just turn in Report #1 when I turn in Report #2.
I’m going to address this in the upcoming unit meeting. I just don’t want to come off as a micro-manager and mean. I have gone over this more than once in December. What part of ‘Turn in the reports according to their individually established timeframe’ don’t you get? Sheesh!

Girlfriend of Fairfield man killed in Wal-Mart dies in New Year’s crash
The girlfriend of the Fairfield man shot and killed by police in a Beavercreek Wal-Mart last year is believed to be the woman who died in a New Year’s Day crash in Dayton.
Tasha Thomas, 26, of Fairborn and Frederick Bailey, 30, were killed Thursday on North Broadway Street and Edgewood Avenue, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
County coroner’s records match the date of birth, name and hometown of Tasha Thomas who was on the phone with John Crawford the night of Aug. 5 when he was shot and killed inside the store.
Autopsies will be performed Friday on Thomas and Bailey, a coroner’s official said.
Both were ejected from a speeding gray Pontiac after it crashed about 3 p.m., said Cara Neace, a spokeswoman for the Dayton police department.
Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bailey was taken to Miami Valley Hospital, where he later died.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Thomas was talking to Crawford on a cell phone when he was killed inside the store while holding an air-pellet rifle he picked up from a shelf.
A 911 caller told police the replica gun was a real one, and police have said Crawford did not obey commands to drop the weapon.
A grand jury has declined to indict the officers involved. The U.S. Department of Justice is reportedly conducting a separate review of Beavercreek police’s actions.
Last month, the Ohio Attorney General’s Office released video footage from an interview police did with Thomas after the shooting. It shows a detective threatening Thomas with a lie detector test and ask if she’s on drugs.

I may be reading this wrong but it sounds like you’re nitpicking. Are each report due ON a specific date or BY a specific date?
What’s wrong with turning in two reports at once if one is early… if it is due BY a date?

@AJ,
That’s Usher’s Johnny Appleseed/John Smith look…..he was going a more historic, early settler look. All he is missing is a musket and axe. Perhaps he can axe bicycle boy where to get one.
@Rose Garden,
I have a question for you. Would you stay with your partner if they exhibited any of the following behaviors, or they DID NOT PUT FORTH THE EFFORT TO CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR even after you made them aware of how the listed behaviors negatively impacted the relationship? Keep in mind, no judgment, just education and knowledge up in here. Here is the list:
1. Your needs aren’t being met
2. Religious differences
3. You no longer respect your partner
4. Your partner’s ways are different or dangerous
5. You are no longer sexually attracted to your partner
6. You have a hard time forgiving.
7. You no longer have fun together.
8. Long term goals no longer match.
The reason I asked is because I jacked these reasons from another place on the innanet. This list sparked quite an interesting conversation amongst commenters. I thought it would make for a teachable moment in the Rose Garden. That being said…..have at it.
I had to call family members up in the middle of the night to gloat

39 points though
What part of ‘Turn in the reports according to their individually established timeframe’ don’t you get?
_____________
I don’t mean to sound harsh but you getting ran the fukk over!! I wish an employee would come back with what they usually do!! I know you are new to your position but you are being looked at also from the top and you have to show that you can handle your new found position and it includes managing and micro-managing others. The employee that said what they usually do would have to come with me on a field trip to the umemployment office!! I did a field trip 3 years ago, rented a cargo van and all so the people can see for themselves (I’m not playing with yall heaux): this is what happens when people do what they usually do!! DO NOT SHOW WEAKNESS!! You have to go hard in the paint otherwise you will be out of your position and the person who bucking will be in yours!!
It’s a cold world out here and these companies do not care about you being mean or nice. They want the job handled and handled according to policy in place!! If employees can’t do that then they should work for themselves (at least this is what I say). Any questions/concerns??
For example: I will say, turn in Report #1 and Report #2 separately and according to their established deadline
———————————————-
Put it in writing and have him/her sign that they understand the proceedure. That’s what my boss would do.

Okay…I guess I have ranted for the day. Thanks for the feedback Roses! Happy New Year!
I delegate the workload not do the workload.
============
So you a do as I say do boss not a do as I do boss?…. Yeah, I don’t think you gon last
But as to these reports give your department a reasonable deadline to bring all reports up to date. Then going forward reports are due on their timelime but allow folks to turn in reports together provided they are all on time by the one that is due the soonest.
What have you discussed with YOUR supervisor regarding this issue?
Thanks, A.J.
Okay…I guess I have ranted for the day. Thanks for the feedback Roses! Happy New Year!
Happy one to you as well!
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
We know you gonna make the right decision
I’m definitely not saying old dude is correct for his behavior though
missyJ:
As a manager, it is about delegation. If I could do everything solo, I would not need a unit, right? I will burn out if I allow myself to do what has been delegated to the employee. I have oversight of the workload. I am not above assisting when I have to. However, being in management does not mean that I don’t have my own set of priorities. If I become consumed with always ‘picking up their slack’ then I will have a unit that will never become focused and self-directed. I love my job and I am just going to have to get over my hang-ups. I have a job to do and a career to protect. I will get this under control real quick! Thanks for your feedback!
@Missy
Is there a real negative impact cause by him turning him the reports in together? If policy is there just to be there or it addressed something in the past that is no longer relevant, i wouldn’t be so rigid.. But if its causing real problems explain to the employee why its important to follow the established procedures and if they continue to be insubordinate do what you need to do..
@Do Not Delete,
The posters are correct…..if stuff goes down, the upper level management will be looking to you for answers. Do what you have to do to keep your job and sanity. I believe another poster said this too….DOCUMENT EVERYTHING. If it’s not in writing, it didn’t happen. Make sure to cover your behind AT ALL TIMES! Don’t let anything fly off or on your radar without being aware of it. Let us know how it goes.
@DoNotDeleteMe
My pet peeve at work is employees that are getting paid to do their jobs wanting to do it how they see fit.
I be like “are you volunteering your time?” because I show we are paying you to do this job!!
