A probation officer was arrested after using his power of authority to sexually assault a parolee in her South Florida home while her daughter was in the next room.
Police arrested 50-year-old Zachary Thomas Bailey, of Coral Springs Fla., after viewing a rape victim’s smart phone video of the sexual assault. The victim told police she recorded her assault because she thought the police would not believe her.
The victim told police Bailey scheduled a home visit to do a “study” of her Coral Springs home.
She said Bailey asked to see her bedroom, and once there, he blocked her exit from the bedroom and touched her genital area.
“While in the bedroom, Mr. Bailey did sexually batter the victim by putting his hands down the front of her pants,” wrote Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McCue in the police report obtained by 7 News.
The police report quotes the victim as saying, “Mr. Bailey, you can’t do that. What are you doing?”
During the 2nd home visit the next day, Bailey once again cornered the woman in her bedroom, removed his clothes, and installed a condom before attacking the woman on her bed. The assault was captured on cell phone video.
“This is someone who is hired to protect you,” said Lt. McCue, “hired to say, ‘Hey, protect the society,’ and you don’t expect your probation officer to be acting in this manner.”
Bailey worked for the Florida Department of Corrections for 25 years. He lost his job on Wednesday while he sat in jail.
Police are looking for more victims to come forward. Victims can remain anonymous. Call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
