A mentally disturbed New Jersey man was discovered living under a woman’s bed for 5 days, according to WABC TV.
Police say Jason Hubbard broke into a home on Ellenel Boulevard in Spotswood in early May. He went into the daughter’s vacant bedroom where he hid under her bed for as many as 5 days.
The woman’s father was taking out trash when he heard a noise. He proceeded into his daughter’s bedroom where he discovered Hubbard living under her bed. The homeowner called 911 to report the intruder on May 10 at 7 p.m. The Adamcewicz’s 28-year-old son subdued Hubbard until police arrived.
Hubbard apparently subsisted on nothing but water for 5 days. He reportedly used a nearby electrical outlet to charge his four cell phones.
Police arrested Hubbard and charged him with criminal trespass and theft of electricity.
Homeowner Margaret Adamcewicz said Hubbard dated her daughter 5 years ago. She said she hadn’t seen him since.
“I don’t think he was eating,” Adamcewicz told WABC. “I think he just had water under the bed.”
She added: “He just picked our house to hide out in. He didn’t have a home to live in.”
Hubbard is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center on $50,000 bond.
Mental illness in the black community is a serious epidemic that needs to be addressed. A 28-year-old Chicago woman with signs of clinical depression apparently never received the psychiatric care that could have prevented her tragic suicide in a Waller County (Texas) jail cell.
Jailers said Sandra Bland told them of a previous suicide attempt days before she was found dead in her cell of asphyxiation. Bland told jailers she was not on any antidepressant medication.
