Rosie Perez makes tearful exit

Actress Rosie Perez announced her decision to quit ABC’s The View today. The 50-year-old former dancer and activist broke down as she bid farewell to 2 of her co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Nicolle Wallace.

“I’ve decided that it’s time to move on. And I will say that today is very bitter-sweet for me,” Rosie said as she wiped away her tears.

“I am excited for what is to come but I am so sad to leave The View, the staff, the producers, and especially these 2 ladies,” she said, pointing to Whoopi and Nicolle.

“I want to thank you for your friendship, Nicolle, and your intelligence and your wit and your sunshine. Whoopi, I want to thank you for everything: your guidance, your professionalism, most of all, your friendship.”

“You are the captain of the ship,” she told Goldberg, who smiled and looked down at the floor.

Rosie and Wallace joined the lineup last fall. Former co-host Rosie O’Donnell departed soon after their arrival. O’Donnell’s personal problems at home were a major distraction on the set. Not to mention O’Donnell is reportedly very difficult to work with.
