Actor Morgan Freeman, 78, is mourning the loss of his step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines, who was stabbed to death in New York Sunday morning.
Police found Hines bleeding profusely from multiple stab wounds early Sunday. Hines, 33, was reportedly stabbed outside her apartment on the 400 block of W. 162nd Street at around 3 a.m., People.com reports.
Hines was taken to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the NYPD.
The NYPD took a 30-year-old man into custody and transported him to a local hospital for evaluation.
In a statement to People.com, Freeman remembered the granddaughter of his first wife as a talented artist who touched the lives of others.
“The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person,” Freeman said in a statement to People.com. “Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
Freeman and Hines were rumored to be romantically involved. Freeman denied those rumors.
