150 students Hillsboro High School students in Missouri walked out of school today in protest over a cross-dressing boy using the girls’ locker room, KMOV-TV reports.
30-40 students also protested in support of the boy who goes by the name Lila Perry.
Perry, who wore a brown wig and feminine attire, spoke with KNOV News outside the school.
“There’s a lot of ignorance, they are claiming that they’re uncomfortable. I don’t believe for a second that they are,” he said, arrogantly.
He added: “I think this is pure and simple bigotry.”
But one of the protestors disagreed.
“Boys needs to have their own locker room. Girls need to have their own locker room and if somebody has mixed feelings where they are, they need to have their own also,” said Jeff Childs, who held up a sign that read “Girl’s Rights Matter”.
Many of the parents suspect Perry is pretending to be transgender so he can invade female spaces.
Texas is one of the states that allows drag queens and cross-dressers to use the restroom and gym locker rooms of the sex they identify with.
Perry refused the school’s offer to use a Title IX-compliant gender neutral locker room. He dropped the gym class altogether, but he said he will continue to use the girls’ bathroom.
“I wasn’t hurting anyone and I didn’t want to feel segregated out. I didn’t want to be in the gender neutral bathroom,” he said. “I am girl, I shouldn’t be pushed off to another bathroom.”
