Mattel has honored director Ava DuVernay with her own Barbie doll in her beautiful image. Mattel launched the new Ava Duvernay black Barbie doll just in time for your Christmas shopping list.
It’s a big deal whenever a black woman (except Nicki Minaj) is honored with her own Barbie doll.
All my proceeds from #AvaBarbie will be sent from @Mattel to @ColorOfChange + @WitnessOrg. A fun way to support. xo! pic.twitter.com/O4Z5zl5els

DuVernay and Mattel tweeted that the doll would be available online at TheBarbieCollection.com today (Dec. 7). But the doll sold out shortly after it went on sale.
On Monday, DuVernay tweeted the doll is still available on Amazon.com. But a quick search of Amazon’s returned 0 results.
Sold out on Barbie collection, I'm told. More available at Amazon. What the hell is going on? #bananas #nuts #whoa https://t.co/xNdWlav3uf

The doll is part of a collection of Barbie dolls honoring ‘Sheroes.’
“Barbie has always represented that girls have choices, and this spring we are proud to honor six ‘Sheroes’ who through their trade and philanthropic efforts are an inspiration to girls,” said Evelyn Mazzocco, general manager for Barbie.
