Rapper Meek Mill is back in a Philadelphia courtroom today… and things aren’t looking good for him. Meek failed a urine test after handing in a cup of cold water. He blamed the mixup on a protein shake he consumed that diluted the urine and turned it clear.
A parade of friends and supporters took the stand on Thursday hoping to convince the judge not to send the 29-year-old rapper back to prison for violating his probation.
Meek pleaded with the judge, saying his “life is on the line.”
Old school music producer Kenny Gamble took the stand to implore the judge to give Meek another chance.
“This man is not a criminal. Putting him in jail is not going to help at all,” said Gamble, who along with Leon Huff, wrote hit songs for many stars including the Jackson 5, The O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, and more.
If you recall, Meek’s girlfriend Nicki Minaj took the stand last week to testify in Meek’e defense. Her testimony didn’t go well. Nicki directed her rage toward his female probation officer, saying “She’s not going to be the one sleeping alone when he goes to jail. I am.”
Prosecutors say Meek is unpredictable and refuses to adhere to the terms of his probation. He showed up at concerts in New York, Miami and L.A. without permission from his probation officer.
