Rapper Nicki Minaj testified at a probation violation hearing for her boyfriend, rapper Meek Mill, on Thursday. Meek’s probation officer asked a Philadelphia judge to revoke his probation for turning in a “suspicious” urine sample.
Minaj, 34, testified about her relationship with her live-in boyfriend.
“He doesn’t have a lot of structure. He can be irresponsible,” Nicki said. “Since I’ve come in his life, I think I’ve helped on that a little bit.”
Meek’s probation stems from a 2009 conviction on drug charges. He spent 5 months in prison last year for violating the terms of his probation. He faced the same judge in court on Thursday.
Minaj told the judge her 28-year-old boyfriend needed more time to get his act together. She said he’s “just getting accustomed to being an adult.”
Referring to Mill’s female probation officer, Nicki said, “She’s not going to be the one sleeping alone when he goes to jail. I am.”
Nicki said Meek is not perfect, “but I can’t believe how much he’s changed.”
Earlier, Nicki told Billboard magazine she and Meek were not engaged. But Meek’s lawyer said his client and Nicki were “in marriage talks.”
Nicki promised the judge to monitor Meek’s behavior more closely. She said she would see that he followed the terms of his probation including fulfilling community service.
Meek will testify on his own behalf when the hearing resumes next week.
