Skye and Jamal Lyon

Fox TV’s soap opera musical “Empire” hit rock bottom in the ratings last night. According to TVbytheNumbers, only 9.1 million viewers tuned in to watch the midseason break on Wednesday night. That’s a drop of over 2 million viewers in one week!

Empire saw its biggest drop in the all-important adult 18-49 ratings point per household (3.2). Last week’s ratings point was 4.4!

Last week’s debut of Vivica A. Fox as Cookie Lyon’s sister Candace gave the series a much-needed boost in ratings. But Vivica did not appear in Wednesday’s midseason break.

The series dropped below 10 million viewers for the first time since the first episode of season 1!

Viewers blame Empire‘s grandiose co-creator, Lee Daniels, for the inconsistent storyline that focuses mainly on openly gay actor Jussie Smollet who plays boring Jamal Lyon.

Cookie and Lucious Lyon

The series will continue to lose viewers in droves until Daniels puts the focus back on the stars who brought him to the dance, Taraji P. Henson (Cookie) and Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon).
