Obama's gun control

President Obama made good on his 1st step to disarm law-abiding American citizens without Congress’s approval.

Obama’s new gun control law, that goes into affect today, makes it more difficult for Americans to buy guns from private dealers.

Not everyone is as happy as the criminals who will continue to obtain their guns illegally.

Rep. John Culberson, R-Texas vowed to “use every tool at my disposal to immediately restrict” funding to the Department of Justice.

On Monday, Obama said he has the “legal authority” to act on gun control, and he dismissed Republican criticism that his bill is a “dangerous overreach” by going around Congress to sign his bill into law.

Republicans also accuse Obama of — once again — ignoring the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution that gives every American the right to bear arms.

“The recommendations that are being made by my team here are ones that are entirely consistent with the Second Amendment,” Obama said, adding that his new law could “potentially save lives.”

Obama’s executive order expands background checks for gun buyers who purchase guns through private gun dealers.

The current law calls for only federally licensed gun dealers to run background checks on buyers.

Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump promised to veto Obama’s gun control law when he is elected president in November.

“We’re not changing the Second Amendment,” Trump promised during a campaign rally in Biloxi, Miss. on Saturday. “I will veto that. I will un-sign that so fast.”
