NIKE Drops Manny Pacquaio for Saying Gays ‘Worse Than Animals’

The fallout continues for champion boxer Manny Pacquaio who caused a storm of controversy when he compared the gays to animals.

In a television interview that aired in the Philippines this week, Pacquaio, 37, said the gays were “worse than animals.”

“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,” he told local broadcaster TV5.

“If men mate with men and women mate with women they are worse than animals,” he added.

Sportswear giant was among those offended by the eight time boxing champ’s comments.

“We find Manny Pacquiao’s comments abhorrent,” Nike said in a statement to the Daily News. “Nike strongly opposes discrimination of any kind and has a long history of supporting and standing up for the rights of the LGBT community.

“We no longer have a relationship with Manny Pacquia.”

Pacquaio’s final fight before he retires is April 9.

The conditions their employees have to work under are abhorrent. They have kids working. It is literally slave labor. I always find it interesting how people think slavery is a thing of the past. The way our apparel is made, Apple and their phones… So many aspects of corporate culture involve illegal and unethical business practices, but because these factories are set up overseas, they’re not sanctioned by our government. Corporations get cheap labor, work employees so hard that some commit suicide, and then we pay a premium for things like sneakers, cell phones and tablets. Then said corporations pocket their billions in profits, which they aren’t taxed on because their factories are in Asia. It is outright theft.

This was pre-Internet, and people under a certain age seem to forget that life existed prior to social media. I checked him ever-so-politely and that ended that. Everyone has choices to make. I’m not saying run around and bash people for them, but an opinion should not cause backlash like this. His statement made sense if you look at it for what it was. An illustrative way to drive a point home. “Animals know to look to mate with the opposite sex (as they were created to do) but many men and women look for the same sex (not what we were created to do) and in essence have less sense than animals.” Be mad, but the fact is that is a coherent and point blank accurate way to look at it.

It’s a trap, not a question he could avoid. It was an interview as he’s running for Senate. He can’t say “no comment” because legalizing same sex marriage would depend on senators’ votes. I agree he could have worded his answer better, but I believe he didn’t mean to insult or his gestures afterwards would show it.
