The Rachel Roy/Becky saga has taken a new twist. After Beyonce‘s Lemonade movie premiered on Saturday, Roy took to Instagram.com and identified herself as the woman referred to by Beyonce as “Becky with the good hair” in her single “Sorry”. Beyonce blamed “Becky” for her marital woes with husband Jay Z.
But after getting death threats from Beyonce’s rabid fan base, Roy now claims she is not the infamous “Becky” who wrecked Beyonce’s marriage and stole her man.
“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest,” the fashion designer told People magazine in a statement on Tuesday. “My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that. There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”
The 42-year-old fashion designer cancelled a scheduled speaking engagement in NYC on Monday after Beyonce’s fans trashed her Instagram mentions and threatened her 16-year-old daughter, Ava Dash.
“Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats,” she said in a statement. “As a mother – and I know many mothers would agree – I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable. I would hope that the media sees the real issue here – the issue of cyber bullying – and how it should not be tolerated by anyone.”
