A 20-year-old Roswell man was arrested Wednesday in connection with the murders of Natalie Henderson, 17, and Carter Davis, 17, pictured left.
Cellphone communications and surveillance video led police to Jeffrey Hazelwood, 20, of Roswell, pictured right.
A delivery truck driver found the bodies of the 2 teenagers behind a Publix grocery store just before 6 a.m. on Monday.
Each suffered a single gunshot wound to the head.
Henderson and Carter were found lying next to their cars. Surveillance video showed they arrived in the area between 2 and 3 a.m. Their parents told police they thought the children were at home in their beds.
Henderson and Carter were set to begin their senior year at Roswell high school and River Ridge High School respectively.
Police would not say if a murder weapon had been recovered during a search of a home in East Cobb County. They said only that a tip led them to the home to search for evidence.
Neighbors were shaken and surprised at the heavy police presence in their bedroom community.
“This is a very middle/upper-class neighborhood. So this is very alarming actually. Even to hear the news but to have this right around in our neighborhood is very surprising,” neighbor Charlene Kurkjian told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.
Hazelwood lived in Roswell with his grandparents. He recently left his job at Michaels in Roswell under unexplained circumstances.
A neighbor described Hazelwood as “Quiet, polite and just a nice kid”.
“It’s just hard to believe. I just don’t picture Jeff doing that,” she said.
