Keith Lamont Scott’s wife released cell phone video that shows the deadly encounter between her husband and Charlotte police on Tuesday.
Police shot and killed Scott, 43, after they repeatedly warned him to drop his gun.
The video tells a far different story from the one told by Scott’s family members who said Keith was reading a book in his car when he was shot without provocation.
In the video, Rakeyia Scott can be heard saying, “Don’t shoot him, don’t shoot him!”
She said, “He doesn’t have a gun. He has a TBI [traumatic brain injury]. He’s not gonna do anything to you guys. He just took his medicine.”
Rakeyia is also heard repeatedly shouting, “Keith, don’t do it! Don’t do it!” She tells him to “come on out the car” and “don’t let them break the windows.”
The video shows Scott did not comply with repeated orders to drop his weapon.
After he was shot, a gun was found near his body. He was also wearing an ankle holster that matched the weapon.
Scott’s death sparked 3 days of rioting and looting in Charlotte.
