The world discovered Teyana Taylor after Kanye West cast her as the black Jennifer Beals in his “Fade” music video at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Teyana gyrated and twerked her way into crossover stardom — and it only took the 25-year-old nine years to get there.
We here in the Garden laughed as the mainstream media introduced Teyana as that girl from Kanye’s “Fade” music video.
They didn’t know her as the child star, or the singer, or even as the wife of Iman Shumpert of the NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers.
People magazine reached out to the mother-of-one to ask her what crossover status feels like.
“It feels dope,” she said.
On the video inspiring other women to get fit like her: “I think the part about it that I love the most is that [the video] inspires women to know that you can be superwoman, even with a child.”
Taylor and Shumpert have a daughter, 8-month-old Iman Tayla “Junie” Shumpert Jr.
“Giving birth is a beautiful thing and I think instead of everyone being worried, like, ‘Oh is my body going to be messed up?’ This is really showing women, like, no, anything is possible,” she tells People mag.
Step your game up ladies.
